MG Comet EV Range Driveability Features Test Price Images Colours In Five Days

The MG Comet is not your usual car and our first drive with this new EV showed how different it is along with being a fun little city car. However, a true test is when you spend some time with it. Hence, we spent five days with the MG Comet to see how good it is to drive. First of all the tiny dimensions do not impact the attention it draws. Everyone comes to have a good look because it is something very different. The styling punches more than its dimensions while a closer look revealed premium quality along with a good paint finish. It feels premium and the same thing can be said for the interiors. While the grey/white look can be a dirt magnet, the design is simple and again simply works. You will be using this as a city car and for that, it just about has enough space for a laptop bag of sorts. The starting procedure is again simple with not even having a start/stop button. A simple two taps on the brake pedal and you are off with a simple procedure of turning off the car also as you simply need to walk away and lock it. Visibility as our first drive review stated is excellent and the small dimensions made it a joy to drive. The turning circle is under 4.2 metres and that means you can do some stuff you can't do with other cars. You will rarely need to take 3-point turns with this car and finding parking spots has never been this easy. The Comet is light and easy to drive but the driving experience is suitably premium with a linear power delivery. It is light and is fu...

MG Comet EV : Our observations after a day of driving

Driving the MG Comet EV Powering the rear wheels of the MG Comet EV is a permanent magnet synchronous motor that puts out 41 BHP and 110 Nm: Before we get to the driving part, let’s get some basics right. There are 3 main components in an EV – the battery, the motor, and the controller/charger. The battery is what stores the energy and the motor is what uses that energy to move the car. The controller/charger converts the energy from the battery into a usable form to power the motor. In more technical terms, the power grid from your house or a charging station is usually an AC current. The lithium-ion battery can store electric energy in DC form. So while charging, there’s an AC/DC converter that will convert the power grid's AC into DC and store it in your car’s battery. The DC fast chargers that you see usually have the AC/DC converter inbuilt, which is how they can charge your car’s battery faster. However, that option is not available on the MG Comet. You only have the option of 3.3 kW AC charging. In the case of the MG Comet, the motor is placed at the rear axle, the battery is in the middle and the controller sits at the front. Step inside the Comet and don’t bother looking for a start/stop button. You won’t find one. Just press the brake pedal twice and the Comet is ready to drive. It’s that simple! And if you want to switch off the car, switch to N, pull the handbrake, step out, close the door, walk away, and lock the car. The car will switch off and lock itself. S...

10 points about MG Comet EV: Exterior, interior & driving experience

BHPian Djay recently shared this with other enthusiasts. Got a chance to test out the Comet EV today. Following are my observations - Exteriors • Firstly to address the elephant in the room, I like its looks. In person, it actually looks quite cute. Definitely grabs a lot of attention and multiple people were asking about it very positively during the test drive. I loved the Green and Black dual tone, which sadly only comes with the top-end Plush variant. As per the dealership SA, the base Pace variant only comes with the single tone white color. Interiors • The fit and finish look good. Doors feel hefty. Everything is good to touch and looks premium. But not sure about how it will hold up or what the safety aspect is for this car. The single-touch lever to recline and move the front seats felt a little difficult to operate and the front seat was creaking on bad road surfaces. But might just be due to a lot of (ab)use for the test drive car. I would say regularly getting into the back seat might affect the overall durability of the lever. • The car is super compact on the outside, but surprisingly feels roomy on the inside. The ample glass area gives a very open and airy feel to the cabin (the white and light gray interiors on the higher trims help). The front seats are slightly narrow but the width and under-thigh support should be fine for people with average build for city rides. The driver seat height is not adjustable, but it's high enough to give a good view. Taller ...
