Aarya Walvekar, an Indian-American teenager from Virginia, was crowned Miss India USA in 2022 at the annual beauty pageant held on Sunday in New Jersey. The 18-year-old represented USA’s capital Washington DC at the contest which saw 74 contestants from 30 states for three different pageants – Miss India USA, Mrs India USA and Miss Teen India USA.

Known to be the longest-running pageant outside India, the event recently marked its 40th anniversary. An aspiring actor, Walvekar desires to make her debut on the silver screen and be a part of films and television someday. The pageant recently marked its 40th anniversary, making it the longest-running Indian pageant functioning outside India. The brainchild of Indian-Americans Dharmatma and Neelam Saran based in New York, the duo started the initiative under the umbrella of Worldwide Pageants. "I am very much thankful to the Indian community around the world for their support over the years," the former stated.

The Virginia adolescent said that she has always wanted to be an actor while speaking with the media after the contest. She claimed that she developed a love of movies and television at a very young age and that she dreamed of appearing in movies one day.The longest-running Indian pageant outside of India celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Akshi Jain of Washington State was crowned Mrs. India USA and Tanvi Grover of New York was crowned as Miss Teen India USA. As many as 74 contestants representing 30 states participated in three different pageants -Miss India USA, Mrs. India USA and Miss Teen India USA. Winners of all three categories receive complimentary tickets to Mumbai early next year to take part in Worldwide Pageants organised by the same group.
