Meghalaya Assembly Elections 2023: How to find your name on the voters’ list?

The unicameral legislature of the Meghalaya Assembly held its last elections in 2018. Conrad Kongkal Sangma took oath as the 12th Chief Minister of Meghalaya. He assumed the presidency of the ruling National People’s Party in 2016 following the death of his father, former chief minister, and former speaker of the Lok Sabha, P.A. Sanghma. The chief electoral officers of all states and union territories have developed websites with statistics and local interest material. On these websites, you can also find the most recent electoral rolls using a search function. The respective states’ list can be accessed by visiting the website https://eci.gov.in/ A ‘Please select State/Ut’ option appears at the bottom of the homepage, and clicking it pops up a dialogue box with a list of the states and union territories in alphabetical order. • Meghalaya was formed on January 21 in the year 1972. • It was carved out of the northeastern state of Assam. • Congress had a stronghold in the state for decades. Meghalaya Assembly Election 2023: The northeastern state of Meghalaya, predominantly populated by tribal groups, is all set to conduct the Legislative Assembly Election by February or March 2023. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule of the Assembly elections in Meghalaya. People in Meghalaya will vote on February 27. The current term of the Assembly which commenced on March 16, 2018, will come to an end on March 15, 2023. The last Assembly Elections in the state were held in the month of February 2018. Following this, the state government was formed by a coalition led by the National People’s Party (NPP), with Conrad Sangma as Chief Minister. In the 2023 Meghalaya Assembly Election, all 12 districts in the state will vote to elect 60 members of the state Assembly. Of all the constituencies, the state has a total of 55 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes or STs, and the rest of the five seats are reserved for general candidates. Meghalaya Assembly Election 2018 A total of 361 candidates contested the polls across the 60 constituencies in 2018. Meghalaya Assembly Election 2023: NPP stuns ally BJP to go solo; fields 58 candidates out of 60 seats

SHILLONG: The ruling NPP in Meghalaya on Thursday announced a list of 58 candidates for elections to the 60-member assembly in the state. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will be fighting the elections from South Tura in West Garo Hills district, while his deputy Prestone Tynsong will contest from Pynursla in East Khasi Hills district. Industries Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar is the candidate from Nartiang in West Jaintia Hills district and Transport Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare will fight the elections from Nongkrem in East Khasi Hills district. Addressing a rally at the Polo Grounds here, the chief minister said that several MLAs from different parties have joined the NPP over the last five years, which demonstrates that the it "is growing stronger". The NPP has given nomination to at least 10 MLAs who have switched sides ahead of the elections. Among them are former Congress MLAs Ampareen Lyngdoh (Laitumkhrah) and Mohindro Rapsang (West Shillong), former PDF MLA Hamletson Dohling (Mylliem) and former HSPDP MLA Samlin Malngiang (Sohiong). "These MLAs have not joined NPP for political gains but for the greater cause of serving the people of the state," Sangma asserted.
