The Gem Of the Mediterranean The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2006, is the first of three ATP Masters 1000 tournaments played on clay. The tournament is a player and fan favourite due to its magnificent location, the Monte-Carlo Country Club, and long tradition of champions. Every year since 1897, the Principality has hosted one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world: the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters. Scheduled for April, the first big European meeting of the year on the clay courts brings together the greatest players in the world. The Greek won the opening set and was serving for the match in the second. However, the Argentinian fought back and took the set in a tie-break. Schwartzman raced to a 4-0 lead in the decider before the Greek won six straight games to reach the semifinals. The Greek, however, has had it easy compared to Davidovich Fokina, who has gone the distance in three out of his five matches so far. Both players have looked in good form throughout the week and the final promises to be an exciting affair.
