Synopsis Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Rs 2,870 crore Mopa airport project on Sunday evening. The new airport, which will be called Manohar International Airport in honour of the late Manohar Parrikar, intends to improve air connectivity in Goa by facilitating the movement of civilian traffic into the state. The Mopa airport was constructed with sustainable infrastructure in mind and includes, among other things, a solar power plant, green buildings, LED lights on the runway, rainwater collection, and a cutting-edge sewage treatment facility with recycling capabilities. PM Modi laid the airport's foundation stone in November 2016. It has incorporated some of the top technology, including 5G compatible IT infrastructure, StabilRoad, Robomatic Hollow precast walls, and 3-D Monolithic Precast buildings. IndiGo will operate 12 flights daily and 168 new flights weekly from Mopa airport, connecting to eight cities across the country, the official said.
