Murali Vijay represented India in 87 international matches across all formats, playing 61 Tests, 17 ODIs and nine T20Is. He last played for India in 2018 against Australia in Perth. In an international career that spanned nine years, Vijay proved to be one of India's most reliable openers during that period. In 61 Tests, Vijay accumulated 3982 which included 12 centuries and 15 half-centuries. Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan formed a solid opening pair for India Between 2013-2018, he formed a formidable partnership with Shikhar Dhawan with the pair scoring 1748 runs in 41 matches together at an average of 43.70. This made them the third most prolific opening pair in Indian Test history, with only Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir (4412 runs) and Chetan Chauhan and Sunil Gavaskar (3010 runs) scoring more runs together. Vijay's most memorable innings came in overseas conditions, with 145 and 52 at Trent Bridge helping India salvage a draw against England in July 2014. CHENNAI: The sixth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) --- to be held from June 23 till July 31 --- will see the return of opener On the reasons for him to be staying away from the game for such a long period of time, Vijay --- during a TNPL function on Saturday --- pointed out, "I wanted to play but I had a few injuries. Also my personal life was going through a fast pace and I wanted to slow it down. I wanted to see where as an individual I am standing, and that’s why I felt the break at that point of time was required. Luckily, TNCA has been very supportive and they understood my situation and have given me the platform (via TNPL) to come back and play." Vijay, who has been training for the last few weeks, is keen to hit the ground running. "I am very excited to be playing this season of the TNPL. I am enjoying cricket, feeling fit and looking to play the game for as long as possible," he said. TNPL has roped in Giggr Technologies to take a big leap in digitalizing the tournament. The opener will see defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies taking on Nellai Royal Kings in Tirunelveli.
