Schmidt in 1886, the Haas-Lilienthal House is San Francisco’s only intact Victorian home that is open to the public. Impressively, the Queen Anne–style house survived both the 1906 and the 1989 earthquakes and stands as an example of upper-middle-class life in the Victorian era. When it was established in 1875, the Palace Hotel was the largest luxury hotel in the world. Steeped in history, it has hosted many noteworthy events, including a reception for Thomas Edison during the Panama-Pacific International Exposition.
