Before that, the distinction between good and bad characters was obvious. Beginning in December 1971 that distinction became blurred with the introduction of San Francisco police inspector Harry Callahan portrayed by Clint Eastwood. Dirty Harry had utter contempt for the law, his character seemingly as lawless as some of the criminals he encountered. Callahan’s one social redeeming trait: maintaining law and order in a country that seemed to be at the time coming unraveled at the seams. For with these words, “I know what you’re thinking: ‘Did he fire six shots or only five?’ Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I’ve kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do you, punk?” Callahan became judge, jury and executioner. And Hollywood struck box office gold. Many more anti-heroes followed. Robert De Niro’s Travis Bickle in “Taxi Driver,” February 1976. Sly Stallon...

'Narcotics is a dirty business': Mohanlal joins with Kerala Police in anti

“Narcotics is a dirty business” is an iconic dialogue from the Mohanlal movie Irupatham Noottandu. The dialogue was featured again in the recent Mollywood thriller Lucifer. Now, the actor is using the dialogue for a social cause. Mohanlal has joined hands with Kerala to promote a campaign against drugs. The campaign ad, conceived by Kochi City Police Commissioner Vijay Sakhare, opens with the actor saying how the silence of the good people are causing the drug mafia to flourish. The campaign, which urges people to “be a warrior”, shows how ordinary people are complicit in perpetrating the drug menace when they fail to raise their voices against the drug pushers and people using drugs. It shows how this silence may lead to dire consequences. “As I say, narcotics is a dirty business. When you are silent against the drug peddling, you become silent partners in the same,” says the actor in the campaign ad. “Now, we are going to make an army against narcotics, an anti-narcotics army. Join the anti-narcotics army, wipe away the dirty narcotic business from our nation,” the actor urges people in the campaign. The actor gives out the WhatsApp number of the “anti-narcotic Army of Kerala Police”—999 59 66 666—and asked people to reach out to the number through photos, voice messages or videos if they come across anyone selling or using drugs.

The news channel ran the story as part of its programme on November 10, 2022, on the drug menace in the state. The complaint filed by MLA PV Anwar claims the interview of a 14-year-old girl in the channel’s ‘Narcotics is a dirty business’ series was fake. US FDA panel backs approval for Eisai

June 9 (Reuters) - A panel of expert advisers on Friday unanimously agreed that a late-stage trial of Eisai All six advisers on the panel voted in favor of Leqembi for treatment of the mind-wasting illness. Regular approval by Food and Drug Administration - a decision expected by July 6 - is likely to expand Medicare payment for the treatment. That approval would also make Leqembi the first disease-modifying drug ever to achieve the regulatory milestone. Current treatments only treat symptoms but do not change the course of the disease, which affects 6 million Americans, according to the Alzheimer's Association. Leqembi won accelerated approval by the FDA in January based on its ability to remove sticky amyloid plaques from the brain. The panel on Friday considered Eisai's large confirmatory trial designed to show the drug benefited patients. That study, published in November, showed the drug "I believe the benefit versus risk are beneficial, acceptable and in line with this class of therapeutics, especially considering the burden of the disease and the progressive nature of the disease," said panel member Dr. Tanya Simuni, professor of neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. "Overall, it demonstrated clearly that this is an effective treatment in the population as it was defined," said Dr. Robert Alexander, committee chair and an Alzheimer's expert at the Banner Alzheimer's Institute. He added that he thought the study "clearly demonstrated a cli...
