Basically a large one room museum, filled with a lot of railroad memorabilia. If you like railroads, you will enjoy this visit. One note, because of covid, you have to make an appointment to see the collection. This museum is run by volunteers. Another not, the gift shop is full of bargins. If you came to visit the depot in Hamlet, this is a good side trip. No entrance fee but donations are welcome. Great place to stop and indulge your curiosity about the railroad and the small town of Hamlet. Friendly volunteer staff. Part of museum area not climate controlled. Small but fun train layout. Interesting rail safety artifacts. No admission charge. Limited parking. Pay attention to hours... call ahead if you need different hours than those stated. The main depot will take you back in time when the well heeled traveled through this Rail hub town from the Northeast to sun and fun destinations of Florida and New Orleans. THIS quirky site has quite a bit going on from a museum and loads of trains and rolling stock to a chance to rattle round on a little track yourself. Don't make the mistake I did which was to pay for my 50 rupee (55 pence) entry ticket and walk all the way inside only to find that I needed a separate ticket for the little "Joy Train". I had to walk all the way back, get a 20 rupee ticket for that and then walk back again to the trains. All Aboard! Hamlet Historic Railroad Tour The town of Hamlet Depot & Museums Begin your visit at the Seaboard Air Line Railroad (now CSX Transportation) constructed the Depot in 1900. At that time it was known as the Seaboard Passenger Depot and had a hotel attached, but the hotel burned down in the 1930s. Hamlet Depot & Museums was restored to its original condition in 2004, when it was moved 240 feet and rotated 90 degrees to its current location. It’s now on the National Register of Historic Places. The main floor of the Hamlet Depot & Museums still serves as an active Amtrak station. The rest of the area serves as a museum, with professionally designed exhibits that focus on the history of the railroad in the North Carolina Sandhills. Operate a real track signal or take in the HO-scale model train set, which occupies the entire basement floor. The model train layout is a replica of the town of Hamlet as it existed in the 1950s. At the time, its rail yard was the largest and most modern in the world. A staff member with extensive knowledge of the building and its history will guide your tour of the Hamlet Depot & Museums. The building once sat at the apex of eight sets of tracks (ask about the famous “Diamond” intersection), and you’re certain to see some live CSX Transportation freight trains passing through during your visit. The National Rail Museum (NRM) is one of the world's prominent Railway museums. Its collections speaks of over 160 years of Rail history in the Indian sub-continent. Opened on the 1 February 1977 the National Rail Museum is located in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area and spreads over 11 acres of land. Over 500 thousand people visits NRM every year. The National Rail Museum was India’s first transport museum. The museum has about 88 real-life size outdoor exhibits comprising of locomotives, saloons, carriages, crane, and special coaches of various gauges.
