GC Murmu is the New CAG

During this period, Mr. Murmu also took charge as the Relief Commissioner, the Mines, and Minerals Commissioner as well as the Managing Director, Gujarat Maritime Board. In April 2015, Mr. Murmu first moved to the Centre as Joint Secretary in the Expenditure Department. He has also held the charge of Additional Secretary in the Department of Financial Services between June 2016 and December 2017. Mr. Murmu in his capacity as the CAG of India will be looking after all the audits, as well as receipts and expenditures of the Government of India and the state governments. His duties will also include the audit of trading, manufacturing, profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, and other subsidiary accounts kept in the government departments. Hours after his resignation as Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor was accepted by the President, the Government on Thursday appointed G C Murmu as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He will succeed Rajiv Mehrishi, who will be completing his term on Friday as he will be completing 65 years. The notification announcing the appointment of Murmu as the CAG by President Ram Nath Kovind was issued by the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance late on Thursday night. Murmu, a former Expenditure Secretary who was to retire in November last year, was appointed Jammu and Kashmir LG last October and he put in his papers on Wednesday evening. Former Union Minister Manoj Sinha succeeded Murmu as Jammu and Kashmir LG. A former IAS officer of 1985-batch Gujarat cadre, Murmu is known for his implementation skills. He is known to enjoy the trust and confidence of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. A post-graduate in political science who also holds MBA degree, Murmu was also questioned by the CBI in 2013 in connection with the alleged fake encounter case involving the killing of Ishrat Jahan and three others who were said to be accused of being involved in a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Image Source : PTI Girish Chandra Murmu is the new CAG of India Girish Chandra Murmu, who resigned as the Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor yesterday, has been appointed as the new Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Murmu's resignation came on the day the union territory marked the first anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, which scrapped Jammu and Kashmir's special status. The 60-year-old former IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre had on October 29 last year taken over as the first LG of the union territory after the state of Jammu and Kashmir was downgraded and sliced into two UTs, the other one being Ladakh. Murmu, a 1985-batch IAS officer, has served as Principal Secretary to Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister. He was a secretary in the ministry of finance at the time of his appointment as Lt Governor. Manoj Sinha, former union minister and senior BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh, has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Need for new techniques to audit Blue Economy: CAG Murmu

Murmu said that to keep ahead of the curve, the SAI20 community must prioritize collaborations in arriving at new techniques, skills, capabilities and methods and that SAIs must proactively formalize channels and platforms that would facilitate these collaborations. While discussing the possibility and perils of AI, he emphasized that it was essential that policy makers put in place processes to responsibly harness the potential of this technology. He said that as AI was making greater inroads into governance, SAIs must inevitably prepare themselves for auditing AI based governance systems and SAIs must look for opportunities to adopt AI into their audit techniques to increase their effectiveness. He also announced the setting up of a Center of Excellence in the Blue Economy at SAI India's International Centre for Environment Audit and Sustainable Development (iCED). Speaking at the event, Amitabh Kant, the G20 Sherpa, hailed the establishment of SAI20 as a positive step. He acknowledged the network created between SAIs and governments, enabling them to coordinate and articulate strategies. He emphasized the role of SAIs as partners in governance, contributing to greater transparency and accountability. In his inaugural address, Goa Governor P. S.
