Guv seeks agenda of 2

Chandigarh, Jun 14 (PTI) Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit has sought information about the agenda of the upcoming two-day special session of the state Assembly slated to be held on June 19-20, official sources said on Wednesday. However, the governor has not raised any objection to the holding of the special session, they said. The details of the agenda were demanded from the office of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha secretariat after it informed the Raj Bhavan about the convening of the session in a letter, they said. The Punjab Assembly secretariat wrote back to the governor's office that the details of the agenda will be shared after a meeting of the business advisory committee. There is no need for the permission of the governor for holding the special session as the House has still not been prorogued. Referring to the office of Punjab Assembly secretariat's letter mentioning holding the budget session extension, which is being called a special session, the office of the governor sought to know about its agenda, said the sources. On June 12, while replying to a question on the special session called by the Punjab government, the governor said that he had no problem with it. The Punjab Cabinet on June 10 approved the summoning of the special session of the state Assembly. In the upcoming special session, the AAP government may raise the issue of "pending" rural development fund (RDF) and “withholding” of funds under the National Health Mission (NHM). The Punjab government has...

Governor conspiring against Punjab at instance, alleges AAP

A day after Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit drew the attention to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of “dereliction” of his “Constitutional duty” for not furnishing the information sought by him (Purohit) through letters, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday accused the governor of plotting against Punjab and the AAP Government at the behest of the Centre. Addressing a press conference, AAP Punjab chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said following the instructions of the Centre, the governor is conspiring against the Punjab and the state government and finding an excuse everyday to do politics. He accused the Opposition parties in Punjab of supporting Purohit in this. Kang asked whether the governor, who has visited various places in the state including the borders of Punjab, can ever question the Central government as to why it has withheld money due to the state’s rural development fund (RDF) and National Health Mission. “The Center is constantly pushing Punjab, but the governor does not have the courage to say anything against the Narendra Modi government,” he added. Questioning the governor’s visits to the border areas of Punjab, Kang said in the big border state of Gujarat or states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in power, large consignments of drugs are being seized, Dalit girls are being raped and killed every day. “But the governors there do not have the courage to say anything, but the governor of Punjab...

Governor Banwarilal Purohit part of Centre's conspiracy against Punjab: AAP

The ruling AAP in Punjab Wednesday accused Governor Banwarilal Purohit of playing politics and asked why he has never raised with the Centre the issue of "pending" rural development and National Health Mission funds for the state. Addressing a press conference here, AAP Punjab chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang also claimed that the governor has violated the decorum of the Constitution by not referring to the state government as "my government". The AAP's reaction came after Purohit wrote to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of dereliction of Constitutional duty by not responding to his letters. Purohit had also referred to a Supreme Court order in February which stated that the governor has a right to seek information from the chief minister. "If governor saab is so concerned about Punjab, then did he ever raise his voice against the Centre's excesses against Punjab on the financial front? Did he take up with the Centre about stopping the release of the Rural Development Fund (RDF) and NHM funds to the state? Never," Kang said. The Punjab government has accused the BJP-led Centre of not releasing funds of around Rs 3,500 crore under the RDF. It has also been at loggerheads with the Centre over the funds under the NHM.
