Image Source : REPRESENTATIONAL PIC BSF gets a new Director General Kerala cadre (1989-batch) IPS officer Nitin Agarwal was on Sunday night appointed as the new director general of the Border Security Force (BSF). The post of BSF chief has been vacant for more than five months after Pankaj Kumar Singh retired on December 31, 2022. Who is Nitin Agarwal? Agarwal is currently posted as the Additional DG of operations at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) headquarters in Delhi. An order of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) issued late night stated Agarwal has been appointed as the BSF DG "from the date of joining the post and up to 31.07.2026, his date of superannuation, or till further orders whichever is earlier." Currently, the charge of BSF DG post is being handled by CRPF DG Sujoy Lal Thaosen with an additional capacity. The appointment of Agarwal came on a day the BSF began its bi-annual four-day border talks with its Bangladeshi counterpart Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Delhi. Thaosen is heading the BSF delegation for these talks. The Bangladesh delegation is led by BGB DG Maj Gen AKM Nazmul Hasan. The new DG is expected to take charge of the BSF after these talks end on June 14. New Delhi: Recipient of the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2015, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Nitin Agrawal on Wednesday took charge as a new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), which claims to be the largest border guarding force in the world. Mr Agrawal, a 1989-batch IPS from Kerala cadre, has held various prominent positions in the Kerala Police as well as serving as Deputy Inspector General in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and Inspector General in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). He took charge from CRPF Director General Sujoy Lal Thaosen, who has been holding the additional charge of the BSF for the last five months after the retirement of Pankaj Kumar Singh in December 2022. Prior to assuming the role of Director General of the BSF, Mr Agarwal served as Additional Director General (ADG) Central Zone and as ADG Operations in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He was promoted to the rank of ADG in 2014 while serving with the ITBP. Mr Agarwal holds a B.Tech and an M.Tech degree from IIT Delhi, along with an M.Phil in Social Science from Punjab University. Nitin Gadkari unveils Rs 8,415 crore NH projects in Uttar Pradesh

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the commencement of construction for 10 National Highway (NH) projects in Uttar Pradesh. The projects, amounting to a total value of Rs 8,415 crore, were announced in the Pratapgarh region and the Deoria district. Gadkari emphasized the significance of these initiatives in reducing travel time and promoting economic growth. One of the projects includes widening a 43 km stretch of National Highway 330 from Pratapgarh to Sultanpur, costing Rs 1,290 crore. This development will lead to reduced travel time from Prayagraj to Pratapgarh via Ayodhya. Additionally, a 14 km bypass in Pratapgarh, estimated at Rs 309 crore, is slated to commence soon. National Highways Authority of India to build 5,060-km highway stretches in FY24 These infrastructural endeavors are expected to boost various industries, such as cement, gas, bottling, and dairy milk factories, along the Pratapgarh-Musafirkhana section. The projects aim to attract investments to Uttar Pradesh and generate employment opportunities. In the Deoria district, a 22 km, 4-lane bypass costing Rs 1,750 crore is planned for construction, with the awarding scheduled for August 2023. The minister highlighted the positive impact these projects would have on the backward regions of Deoria and Gorakhpur, as well as improved connectivity with Bihar.

By Ashok Singhal: There is one thing that upsets me, and I don't hesitate in accepting that as the transport minister, I have not achieved proper success in saving people's lives, said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari while speaking on the rate of road accidents in the country. In an interview with Aaj Tak, the Union minister said, "In our country, five lakh accidents occur, which results in one and a half lakh deaths, three lakh people suffer a fracture. The basic requirement that needs to be done is auto wire and highway engineering, which we have been doing." "Unless human behaviour changes, the rate of accidents will not decline. We can't be successful in controlling the accident rate without the cooperation of the people," said the minister.
