New Zealand vs. Ireland result: Johnny Sexton eyes series win after first ever victory on All Blacks soil

Ireland captain Johnny Sexton praised head coach Andy Farrell and his staff after their side earned their first ever win in New Zealand to level the three-Test series with a 23-13 victory in Dunedin. Andrew Porter touched down in either half and Sexton added two conversions and three penalties as Andy Farrell's side avenged their 42-19 defeat at Eden Park on July 2. New Zealand were reduced to 14 men when Angus Ta'avao was dismissed in the 31st minute and Sexton admitted the series is "all on the line" ahead of the decider in Wellington next Saturday. "We've got a fantastic coaching team," said Sexton, speaking to Sky Sports after scoring two penalties and adding three conversions on a historic day for Irish rugby. What a night in Dunedin! ☘️ "They had us well up for the game. We felt we didn't give our best last week and the All Blacks punished us but we were in a good place this week and all we had to do was go and deliver the gameplan. We have the chance to win the series here and that doesn't come along too often." 10-7 ahead at the break, Ireland increased their lead in the second half before a Will Jordan try came too late for the All Blacks. There had been doubts over Sexton's participation after he suffered a head injury in Ireland's heavy defeat at Eden Park on July 2 but the fly-half returned to inspire his side to a famous win. The result also meant that New Zealand failed to win for the first time at Dunedin'sForsyth Barr Stadium. The Sporting News followed the...

New Zealand 12

New Zealand 12-23 Ireland: Visitors claim first ever victory on Kiwi soil to level series after Angus Ta'avao red card Ireland score through Andrew Porter tries (two), plus three Johnny Sexton penalties and two conversions as they post first-ever win over All Blacks in New Zealand - and their fourth over them in six years; Test also saw three yellow cards (two NZ, one Ireland) and an All Blacks red card Highlights of a dramatic second Test between New Zealand and Ireland in Dunedin Two tries from Andrew Porter and 13 points from Johnny Sexton saw Ireland record a historic 23-12 win over the All Blacks in New Zealand after Angus Ta'avao's red card, levelling the three-Test series at 1-1. A chaotic first half saw Porter score just three minutes in, All Blacks wing Leicester Fainga'anuku yellow carded - and fortunate not to be sent off for a leading shoulder to the face of Ireland wing Mack Hansen - and then tighthead Ofa Tu'ungafasi also sin-binned for a tackle off the ball on Garry Ringrose, an incident which should have seen Ireland awarded a penalty try. That all proceeded Ta'avao's red card after a TMO review, due to a sickening head-on-head clash with Ringrose, leaving South African referee Jaco Peyper little option but to dismiss the replacement prop on 31 minutes. New Zealand - Tries: Beauden Barrett (40), Jordan (78). Cons: Jordie Barrett (40+). Red cards: Taavao (31). Yellow cards: Faingaanuku (17), Tuungafasi (25). Ireland - Tries: Porter (3, 49). Cons: Sexton (4, ...
