Ahead of ODI World Cup 2023, PCB invites Australia, NZ, Bangladesh, SA

The News reported on Monday, citing sources, that the cricket governing body has begun contacting Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and South Africa to extend invitations for them to visit Pakistan in August to take part in bilateral or tri-nation series. The PCB maintained the series would be a chance for the visiting teams to acclimatise to the conditions in the subcontinent before the World Cup in an email sent to all four cricket boards. Before the ODI World Cup, the PCB wants its players to play three to five ODIs. Bradburn focuses on the ODI World Cup 2023 and WTC final Grant Bradburn, the head coach of Pakistan, has stated that his team’s objectives are to win the ODI World Cup this year, become the top-ranked side across all formats, and go to the World Test Championship (WTC) final. He underscored the necessity for improvement in every sector and the need of playing more matches at a media interaction at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He admitted that the PCB is responsible for organising more matches, and he voiced confidence in its efforts to do this. Abid Ali’s involvement in the camp was questioned, and Bradburn lauded him for being a solid player with a respectable Test average. He praised Abid’s physical appearance and voiced optimism for his eventual comeback. Yasir Shah, a leg-spinner, is still a part of their plans and has the potential to return, according to Bradburn when asked about him. Follow InsideSport on GOOGLE NEWS/ Follow ICC ODI World Cu...

Next ODI World

The next ODI World Cup will take place in India in October-November 2023. This will be the 13th edition of the marquee event, and the 4th to be staged on Indian soil. This will also be the first time that India will independently host an ODI World Cup. India has previously co-hosted 1987 (with Pakistan), 1996 (with Pakistan & Sri Lanka) and 2011 (with Sri Lanka & Bangladesh) events. Previously, the event was supported to take place between February 09- March 26, 2023, but it was eventually postponed to October-November in July 2020 in the wake of schedule disruption thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. Qualification: Just like the 2019 World Cup, the 2023 event will be a 10-team affair. The route to automatic qualification is via the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup ODI Super League (2020-23). While hosts India have earned automatic qualification, the top-7 sides will qualify depending on their position on the points table on 31st May 2023. As of now, defending champions England have confirmed their qualification as they have accumulated 125 points and are currently at the 2nd spot in the table. Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan are on the cusp of qualification while the West Indies (88 in 24 matches), South Africa (59 in 16 matches), and Sri Lanka (62 in 18 matches) face a serious threat of missing out on automatic qualification. The 5 teams which end up missing out on automatic qualification will have to lock horns with regional qualifying teams in a 10-...
