OnePlus Nord 2T review: another strong mid

The OnePlus Nord 2T is another excellent mid-range phone, with the kind of speedy performance and accomplished camera that leaves you questioning the value of many so-called flagships. That said, the fact that it’s barely an update over the OnePlus Nord 2 leaves us questioning its reason for existing. Perhaps the biggest and most interesting advance relates to the pricing. With a new £369 (around $460/AU$655) price tag, the OnePlus Nord 2T instantly becomes one of the best all-round options in the mid-range category. Its tidy design, clean software, crisp photographs, and accomplished all-round performance leave many a £500 and £600 phone looking precariously overpriced. All in all, the OnePlus Nord 2T leaves us rather conflicted. While it’s undoubtedly a very good mid-range smartphone indeed, there’s no escaping the fact that it’s an incremental upgrade at best. At worst, it could be viewed as flat-out unnecessary. (Image credit: Future) OnePlus Nord 2T price and availability The OnePlus Nord 2T hits shops on May 24, 2022, with two hardware variants on offer. The entry-level model comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage at a price of £369 (around $460/AU$655). The step-up model will give you 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, and costs £469 (around $580/AU$830). This represents a slight price decrease here in the UK, where the OnePlus Nord 2 started from £399 back in July 2021. At this price, the OnePlus Nord 2T also stands as a direct rival to the Red...

OnePlus Nord 2T review: Old wine in new bottle

Outside of a few design changes, the OnePlus Nord 2T is nearly identical to last year's Nord 2. The only major difference on the hardware side of things is 80W wired charging. You're getting the same 90Hz AMOLED panel, same caliber of hardware with the Dimensity 1300, same cameras at the front and back, and the same 4500mAh battery. That said, the Nord 2 was one of the best mid-rangers of 2021, and the Nord 2T excels in the same areas. You're not mistaken if you think that OnePlus is launching too many Nord devices of late. The first-gen Nord released just two years ago, and the Nord 2T has the distinction of being the 10th device in the series. The frenetic launch cycle is in line with OnePlus's shift in strategy, with the manufacturer now focused on the budget and mid-range categories. Just this year, we've seen the The bigger issue is that there isn't anything new with the Nord 2T. This is a tame release even for a mid-cycle refresh; it has the same hardware, same cameras, same battery, and the same screen as last year's Nord 2. As far as I can make out, the only difference is the switch to 80W fast charging, and a new design. (Image credit: Harish Jonnalagadda / Android Central) The Nord 2T was unveiled on May 19, going up for sale starting May 22 in the U.K. and other countries in the region. OnePlus launched the device in India on July 1, with sales kicking off July 5. The Nord 2T is sold in two variants, with the 8GB/128GB model retailing at £369($445) in the U.K. a...

OnePlus Nord 2T review: Software, performance

Software The Nord 2T 5G ships with the latest OxygenOS 12.1 running on top of Android 12. The software is identical to that on the Nord 2 5G, which also recently received its Android 12 update. The Nord 2T supports fingerprint unlock, and the (always-on) optical sensor works very well - it's fast and with superb accuracy. You can also add a face for an even speedier unlock - though this is not as secure. There's is a Quick Launch feature (in Special Features or Fingerprint settings) that lets you open an app or execute a task if you keep your finger on the scanner for a second or two. There's plenty of slots to occupy, and you can cycle them by holding your thumb and swiping left or right. Always-on Display is available, and it can be truly always-on, scheduled, or power-saving (on for just a bit). Biometrics • Biometrics • Fingerprint animation • Quick Launch You can choose from many unique themes for the AOD screen. It's worth noting the Nord 2T offers Horizon Light, also known as Edge Light on other phones. It's independent of the AOD and lighter on the battery, and it is a good alternative to a notification LED. Always-on Display • Themes • Themes • Themes • Horizon Light OxygenOS 12.1 is, for all intents and purposes, ColorOS 12 with a different theme and should be familiar to anyone who's coming from an Oppo or Realme device. On the other hand, it's going to seem quite different to those switching from an older OnePlus device, such as the original OnePlus Nord. Oxyge...

OnePlus Nord 2T Review: OnePlus Returns To What It Does Best

• Share to Facebook • Share to Twitter • Share to Linkedin Now that the main line of OnePlus handsets are the flagships, has OnePlus become that which it sought to challenge? If the only handsets available were those at the top of the specifications tree, then yes that would be the case. But it’s not. Take charing. The OnePlus Nord 2T has the same optimised charing as the OnePlus 10 Pro. specifically 80W charging that will take the 4500 man battery from empty to two-thirds in 15 minutes, and to full charge in 27 minutes. OnePlus still ships the full ‘fast charger’ in the box so there’s no extra purchase to get the faster rates. OnePlus Nord 2T Ewan Spence OnePlus is moving to 6nm in the system on chip, and the move from the Dimensity 1200 to the Dimensity 1300 means at a base level there is more performance and endurance in Nord 2T over the Nord 2. Practically that improves the likes of image processing, HDR video recording, and the other AI-powered systems in the handset. There are a lot of similarities to the Nord 2 in the Nord 2T. You have a similar screen display running with a 90 Hz refresh rate. With other handsets in this price range offering 120 Hz this feels like one of the areas where costs have been considered. To me, this feels like an area where the right decision has been made. One thing that has been added to the screen is more ambient light sensors, now on the front and the rear of the handset, to help get the auto screen brightness just right, no matter wh...

OnePlus Nord 2T review: this phone is a mid

The OnePlus Nord 2T may not be that different to its predecessor but it's still one of the best phones for a small budget. Granted the battery life could be improved and it's not waterproof but such minor flaws shouldn't put you off. This is a fantastic piece of kit with a stunning screen, a capable camera and super fast charging. Earlier this year the OnePlus 10 Pro managed to win me over and pitted itself firmly against other flagship devices from the likes of Google, Apple and Samsung. But not everyone is willing to spend so much on their next handset, and OnePlus has an answer for that. It’s where this smartphone maker thrives and always has done. The original OnePlus Nord proved that you don’t need to spend loads of money on your next handset. As they've expanded the range this has only become more true. Gone are the days of making huge sacrifices because of a tight budget - mid-range phone tech is having its moment right now.
