OnePlus Watch 2 — what we know (and hope to see)

OnePlus has a reputation for teasing upcoming devices ahead of any sort of official announcement. We knew about the first A follow-up, the OnePlus Watch 2, has allegedly entered production in Europe in Asia. Although OnePlus hasn’t hinted at a new Android smartwatch yet, a second-gen OnePlus Watch arriving sometime in summer 2022 would establish an annual upgrade cycle that Samsung and Apple already use for their rival smartwatches. We believe it’s more likely the OnePlus Watch 2 is coming later this year. OnePlus Watch review: Low price and long battery life can't overcome its many shortcomings

OnePlus is known for its elegant smartphone designs and the OnePlus Watch delivers in this area with a stainless steel body, brilliant AMOLED display, comfortable durable watch band, and very long battery life. However, it fails in too many other keys areas with much better RTOS (real-time operating system) options available if you don't want to buy a Samsung Galaxy Watch or Apple Watch. The Also: Best smartwatch 2021: Apple Watch and more top picks Apple and Samsung provide the ultimate smartwatch experiences for iPhone and Android users, but these watches also cost twice as much as the OnePlus Watch. There are several options from If you have a budget of less than $200, then look for an Amazfit option instead. The only reason to consider a OnePlus Watch is if you are a major OnePlus fan and need to have its branded watch in your collection. I bought one because I thought it would be a nice addition to my vast watch collection, but even though it was only $159 I am returning it because of the terrible fitness tracking experience and clunky user interface. OnePlus Watch review: big, basic, and boring

What makes a smartwatch “smart”? Is it the ability to show you notifications from your phone? What about the ability to track your physical activity and wellness, such as step counts, workouts, and sleep? How about providing you information about your day, such as the weather and upcoming calendar events? Or perhaps it’s the inclusion of a voice assistant on your wrist that you can ask to do things without having to use your phone? The OnePlus Watch pairs with and is controlled by the OnePlus Health app for Android — there’s no iPhone compatibility at all. But you don’t need to own a OnePlus phone, it works with basically any modern Android device. I tested it on both OnePlus and Samsung smartphones and the experience was the same. The app is where you can see what health and fitness metrics the watch has recorded, adjust which apps send notifications on your wrist, and view the available watchfaces. OnePlus has about 50 watchfaces so far, with some offering limited customizability in the form of selectable shortcuts or widgets, such as a weather widget, date, or shortcut to a built-in app like the timer. The company says it plans on adding more in the future, but as I mentioned earlier, there are no options for third-party watchfaces or third-party app widgets like you get with Samsung, Wear OS, or Apple smartwatches. The watchfaces themselves are what you’d expect: there...

A Big Statement The OnePlus Watch is only available in the US in one size (46.4mm) and color (midnight black). Featuring a stainless steel case and black strap, it has a decidedly masculine look. As I mentioned at length when I Some smartwatch makers, such as Apple and Garmin, release small and large models of their products with several different case and strap colors and materials to appeal to a wide range of users. The only other watch model OnePlus has announced is a Cobalt Limited Edition version, which features a more durable case and glass face, but that won't be available in the US. The watch's 1.39-inch, 454-by-454-pixel AMOLED display is bright, attractive, and exceptionally responsive. Adding to its appeal is a 2.5D curved glass face with a series of subtle rings around the bezel, which OnePlus aptly describes as a "CD pattern." As for other specs, the OnePlus Watch measures less than half an inch thick (0.43 inches) and weighs 2.6 ounces with its fluoroelastomer (synthetic rubber) strap, or 1.5 ounces without it.
