WHILE city police are gearing up for the arrival of Pandharpur-bound Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj palkhis to go without hitch, the traffic control branch has chalked out an elaborate plan for road diversions and closures for the processions to pass. The palkhis or the procession of palanquins carrying the Paduka or revered symbolic footwear of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, which start their three-week journeys from the temple towns of Dehu and Alandi. The procession is slated to reach Pandharpur on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi on June 29. Officials said the arrival, stay and departure of palkhis in The Sant Tukaram Maharaj palkhi embarked on its journey from the temple town of Dehu in Pune on June 10. As per tradition, the Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi halted at the Inamdar Wada in Dehu on the night of its departure and reached Akurdi in Pimpri Chinchwad on Sunday. The palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj began its journey from Alandi on Sunday, and will begin to make its way to Pune on Monday morning after stopping at Gandhi Wada in Alandi on Sunday night. Alandi, June 6, 2023: In anticipation of the forthcoming departure ceremony of Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s Palkhi Route, authorities in Alandi have made an important announcement. Starting from June 7 to 12, there will be a temporary ban on the entry of industrial heavy vehicles and four-wheelers into the town. Police Inspector Shahaji Pawar shared this information with the public. The revered palanquin of Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj is scheduled to commence its journey to Pandharpur on June 11, following which it will continue its route to Pune on June 12. This grand ceremony witnesses the participation of devoted Warkaris from all over Maharashtra. In order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and prevent congestion in Alandi during this period, the police have devised a comprehensive traffic management plan. The temporary ban on heavy vehicles and four-wheelers aims to facilitate the implementation of this plan, except for essential service vehicles and the Dindi procession participants who will remain in Alandi throughout the Wari period. Pune: Close to six lakh warkaris (pilgrims) arrived in Pune on Monday with the ‘paduka’ (footwear) of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj despite their pending farm works and scorching heat in the firm belief that Lord Vitthala will take care of all problems. Chants of ‘Dnyanaba, Tukaram’, ‘Vitthal Vitthal’ and ‘Mauli, Mauli’ reverberated through the air amid the sound of cymbals and other traditional instruments played by members of the dindis (groups of warkaris). The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj palkhi procession resumed its journey at the Gandhi wada in Alandi to the city on Monday morning. At the same time, the Sant Tukaram Maharaj palkhi, which had taken an overnight halt at the Vitthal temple in Akurdi on Sunday, began its journey around 7am.
