NIOS and IMA jointly introduce new specialisations in paramedical diploma courses

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) have collaborated to strengthen the paramedical courses it offers. The new MoU signed by NIOS adds some additional subjects to the paramedical courses, including Radiography, Medical Imaging Technology, and several specialisations under Medical Laboratory Technology. By Aditya Wadhawan The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) will work on further strengthening the paramedical courses. In 2011, the course was jointly introduced that invited as many as 4,000 students including several working professionals who got jobs working as paramedics. In a new MoU signed by NIOS and IMA, a few additional subjects will be included under the paramedical courses. The new streams under this course include Radiography (X-Ray Technician), Medical Imaging Technology, and several specialisations under Medical Laboratory Technology. Currently, there are 55, 37, and 58 Accredited Vocational Institutes (AVIs) with NIOS for Diploma in Radiography, Medical Imaging Technology, and Medical Laboratory Technology respectively. While pursuing these courses, students will be exposed to subjects like artificial limb implantation technology, Radiology, Optometry, Radiotherapy, Radiography Medical Imaging, and many other subjects which will be recognised by IMA. Paramedic

Center for Allied Health Education’s Paramedic Program is designed to prepare students to qualify for NYC REMAC certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic. Upon successful completion of the program, Paramedic class graduates will also receive BLS, ACLS, PALS and PHTLS certification. The course curriculum includes didactic and laboratory work, as well as clinical (hospital and ambulance) rotations. The Center’s Paramedic Program is an approved National Registry Skills Testing Site and qualifies graduates to sit for the National Registry Written Exam PLEASE NOTE: TO QUALIFY FOR THIS PROGRAM, APPLICANTS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 4 MONTHS OF EMT-BASIC EXPERIENCE OR BE A GRADUATE OF CAHE’S EMT-BASIC PROGRAM. CAHE’s Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and recognized by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. Recognition by CAAHEP qualifies the program’s graduates for eligibility to apply for and take the certification exam for the National Registry of EMT’s (NREMT).
