PATNA: The Patna branch of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 12.6kg gold valued at Rs7.72 crore at Patna Junction from two passengers travelling by Howrah-New Delhi Duronto Express (12273) on Friday. They were identified as Premal and Anil of Kolkata. According to Patna RPF inspector Sushil Kumar, the DRI officials had got a tip-off that two passengers travelling by the Howrah-New Delhi Duronto Express on berth numbers 42 and 43 in the coach C-7 were clandestinely carrying smuggled gold from Kolkata. When the train reached Patna Junction Friday evening, the DRI and the RPF sleuths arrested the two persons and checked their belongings, he said. After a thorough search of their belongings, the DRI officials found gold in such a huge quantity from their possession. The DRI registered a case (5/23-24) and interrogated both the arrested persons before forwarding them to judicial custody, Kumar said.

The Patna Junction Railway Station received a bomb threat last night as the caller threatened to blow up the station. A probe was launched after the Railway Protection Force (RPF) received the call. Intensive search operations were carried out across all 10 platforms late on Monday night. The officials also searched the baggage of passengers on the platforms as well as in the trains that were arriving. "On receiving a threatening call to blow up Patna Junction railway station, we immediately launched a search operation on all platforms, waiting halls, rest rooms, washrooms, clock room, parking area apart from the baggage of passengers on board trains as well as on the platforms. Nothing could be found, " said Vipin Chaturvedi, inspector of RPF Patna. Amritendu Shekhar Thakur, SP (Rail) Bihar said, "Last night there was a bomb threat to blow up Patna Junction railway station. The caller, Rajesh Kumar Ranjan, has been arrested and a search is on at the station. Rajesh's wife had eloped with her lover due to which he made a threatening call in a fit of rage. Further investigation is underway."

The train will traverse through various stations, including Jehanabad, Gaya, Barkakana, Koderma, Hazaribagh Town, and Mesra. The zonal railway authority will conduct several more trials before the train’s final launch. Operating six days a week, the train is expected to cover over 410 kilometers in less than six hours, significantly reducing the travel time between the two cities. While the commencement of the Patna-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express is anticipated by the end of June, no official announcement has been made by the authorities yet.
