Pamban bridge (Rameswaram)

Excellent but Railway track seems dangerous. The Bridge is on sea . There are two operational bridges - one for Train which is old and operational. second is road bridge and third is new railway bridge under construction. Old bridge of Train line , is being opened by six persons in case of Ship movement, which later on jointed like Hawra bridge. Good to stay some time on road bridge during visit to Rameshwaram. . Finest work of Engineering. At a time this bridge surely was an Engineering marvel as it connect the town of Rameshwaram to mainland India. It has survived a cyclonic storm of 1962. The water below it is so crystal clear. The view is just great and one should visit this place. Travel through rail bridge as well as road bridge Hello, We're going to Madurai from Chennai via flight and from Madurai to Rameswaram via car and from Rameswaram to Kanyakumari also via car. We want to experience the Train ride over Pamban bridge. We are not looking forward to a long train journey. Could anyone please suggest which train shall I board and from which station to which, so that we can experience the journey? We had a driver and the drive was very pleasant. The Pamban bridge has lovely views. We stayed at the Hyatt- very nice hotel. Rameshwaram itself was very crowded due to the large number of pilgrims and the traffics inside the town was pretty heavy. The drive to Dhanushkodi was interesting. I am sure the roads are now much better. First time, so I don’t have a comparison. L...

Arulmigu Ramanatha Swamy Temple, Rameswaram

The temple is huge and beautiful. Darshan is quite well managed, you may choose to take paid darshan or not. Usually it doesn't take long to have darshan even in free queue. You need (again not mandatory) to take bath from 22 sacred water wells before doing the darshan. In all this hustle-bustle do try to sight the architecture and enjoy the thousand pillars symmetrically aligned, and appearing to converge at a distance. The temple is managed quite nicely. Outside the temple you will find taxis, autos, rickshaws waiting for you to take you across all the holy sites for a fixed amount. We took one, and it was a good experience. Its said that if Ramanath swamy calls you , you will deffinetly make it to this temple . we stated at 4,45 am to first take darshan of spatik lingam . its a quick que and one can easily get darshan . after this we went to agnitheertham to take a dip , or one can sprinkle the water over you . after this we were taken to the que of 22 kunda bath . there are many agents / men wearing bright white shirts who claim to get every thing done for you , minimum price is 3500 rupees . then they ask for more , which is not required . they do start from spatik lingam till Ramnath swamy darshan . they guide you full darshan . but we hired them from 22 kunda bath . we were poured water from every kunda , which is an amazing expirience . here even if you take special guide its a common crowd line , but the guide will help you get through quickly . later we are taken...

Dhanushkodi Beach Point (Rameswaram)

End point of the Rameshwaram, leading to the Ram Setu. Ram Setu is inaccessible now (or at least we were told like that), so this is the farthest one can go. A bit crowded, but everyone minding their selfies so crowd doesn't bother as they look for a quite corner for nice pictures. Nothing much to do except to enjoy the sea, the path leading from the mainland Rameshwaram to here is good, and one can sight lot of eagles, kites and gulls along the way. Plan to spend quality time here. There is not much else to do. Sandy beach is maintained well. They have a plastic checkpoint!! Clean compared to the other thirthams. The Sunrise is worth catching. Access to this place is from 6.00 am - 5.00pm only. 10 mins past 5.00pm, one can expect to be turned away. It lies at the tip of Rameshwaram where bay of Bengal and Indian ocean meet, is locally called as Arichal Munai. Strong winds were blowing on both sides and there are a lot of food vendors serving cut pineapple, cut watermelon, coconut water, ice cream etc. The water waves are strong and winds blow at high speeds. Lovely view. Dhonuskodi is about 25 km from Rameshwarom. Its wonderful to drive in straigh with both sides sea . Across the ocean is Srilanka . Tourists are allowed upto specifc time .
