While Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu topped among Union Territories (UTs), Punjab and Bihar were the lowest performers among larger states in terms of the overall implementation of Poshan Abhiyaan, as per the government think tank report. It pointed out that only 17 states and UTs had more than 75 per cent of children 12-23 months of age who were fully immunised, while 11 states and UTs had less than 25 per cent fully immunised children. In terms of WCD programme coverage, many states and UTs have distributed take-home rations (THR) to all beneficiaries, according to the report. However, it said, coverage remained low in Bihar (65 per cent pregnant women, 62 per cent lactating women, and 52 per cent children), Punjab (78 per cent pregnant women, 76 per cent lactating women, and 65 per cent children), Sikkim (84 per cent pregnant women, 84 per cent lactating women, and 77 per cent children) and Jammu and Kashmir (49 per cent pregnant women, 51 per cent lactating women, and 54 per cent children). According to the report, 16 states and UTs had more than 75 per cent of children (0-59 months) diarrhoea cases treated with ORS, while there were 5 states and UTs that treated less than 25 per cent of child diarrhoea cases with ORS. Click Here Click Here The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) organized the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2022 from 1st to 30th September 2022. • It aims to improve nutritional outcomes for children under 6 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers. • As part of the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, the MoWCD plans to rope in the Gram Panchayats as Poshan Panchayats. • The 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah aims to convert Jan Andolan (People’s Movement) into Jan Bhagidari (People’s Participation). The key focus will be on “Mahila aur Swasthya” (Woman and Health) and “Bacha aur Shiksha” (Child and Education). Key points: i.Various awareness activities about nutrition at the ground level through sensitization drives, outreach programmes, identification drives, camps and fairs will be conducted at national, state and panchayat level. ii.Pregnant and lactating women, children below six years and adolescent girls will be given special attention to realize the vision of ‘Swasth Bharat’. iii.Under the State level activities- ‘Amma ki Rasoi’ or Grandmother’s Kitchen of traditional nutritious recipes will be organized. iv.A national level toy-creation workshop will also be organized to promote use of indigenous and local toys for learning in Anganwadi Centres.
