Murmu launches PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

Maintaining that India has a little less than 20 per cent of the world's population but more than 25 per cent of its total TB patients, President Droupadi Murmu on Friday urged citizens to work collectively towards the elimination of the disease from the country by 2025 on a war footing. She virtually launched the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Lauding the government's initiative to provide community support to TB patients through the 'Ni-kshay 2.0' portal under which TB patients can be adopted and cared for by an individual, elected representatives or institutions, she urged everyone to make the campaign a mass movement. "When a welfare scheme is made in the interest of people, its chances of success increases manifold," she said in her address. Murmu said that of all the infectious diseases, the maximum number of deaths occur due to tuberculosis. She also launched the 'Ni-kshay Mitra' initiative to ensure additional diagnostic, nutritional, and vocational support to those on TB treatment, and encouraged elected representatives, corporates, NGOs, and individuals to come forward as donors to help the patients complete their journey towards recovery. The 'Ni-kshay 2.0' portal will facilitate in providing additional patient support to improve treatment outcomes of TB patients, augmenting community involvement in meeting India's commitment to end TB by 2025 and leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) opportunities. She said India has set an example to the wor...

Centre calls for corporate, community contributions in campaign against TB

Express News Service NEW DELHI: Even as tuberculosis, one of the biggest killers, saw a 19 per cent increase in 2021, the Centre has now planned to launch a new programme Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA) — that will encourage financial contributions from not only non-governmental organisations (NGOs) but also private sector corporates and the community. Driven primarily by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the programme, to be formally launched on August 20, is primarily aimed at providing nutritional support to TB patients. One of the main thrust areas of the programme will involve encouraging the adoption of TB patients so that their nutritional needs are met. Confirming this to TNIE, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme Deputy Director General Dr Rajendra Joshi said that the new programme would be an expansion of the Union Health Ministry’s focus on TB eradication. The central government implements the NTEP under the aegis of the National Health Mission. “Under this initiative, community support would be ramped up. Anybody - individuals, NGOs, corporate, organisations and institutions can take care of any one geographical area be it a block or district and provide TB patients with nutrition support,” Dr Joshi said. Interestingly enough, following the PMO’s directives, the Union Health Ministry directly communicated with the governors and not the chief ministers of the states. Health ministry sources said that the governors’ offices would work with...
