Governor’s remarks on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj upsets public sentiments Pune: In the bandh called by Maha Vikas Aghadi and various organisations in Pune, shops and markets to remain closed till 3 o’clock pm on December 13, 2022 following Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s statement insulting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Governor Koshyari labelled Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as an icon of ‘olden days’ and called Dr BR Ambedkar and Union minister Nitin Gadkari ‘icons of modern times’ which has created a new controversy. This remark by the Governor is getting sharp reactions from political parties across Maharashtra. As per information from reliable sources, essential services such as grocery, bakery and dairy product shops will function till 10 am tomorrow and then observe bandh till 3 pm. Medical shops will remain open during the bandh. Fatehchand Ranka, president of Federation of Traders Associations of Pune (FATP), said, “All the traders of Pune will be participating in the bandh. Various traders associations have declared their support for the Pune bandh and they will keep their shops closed till 3 pm on December 13.” Laxmi road which mostly has jewellery, clothes and footwear shops will too be supporting the band though it is a wedding season. PUNE: The Restaurants and eateries will stay closed till 3pm, while sales and service related to essential commodities like milk, vegetables, fuel, and public bus services will operate. “Our priority will be to ensure that law and order is not disturbed, and the protest is held peacefully,” district collector Rajesh Deshmukh told TOI on Sunday. “The city and the rural police have been told to be alert,” he added. Pune’s joint police commissioner Ravindra Shisve said they have been assured of a peaceful protest by representatives of all MVA allies. “We have deployed 5,000 personnel on bandobast and posted State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), special teams and Quick Response Teams at vantage points. We will ensure that commuting on roads is normal,” Shisve. Pimpri Chinchwad’s additional police commissioner Sanjay Shinde said they will ensure no shop that elects to stay open will not be forced to shut. “Two SRPF platoons and 1,000 police personnel have been deployed across the Pimpri Chinchwad jurisdiction. We will also ensure there is no confrontation between rival political parties,” Shinde said. Pune: Wife, daughter's boyfriend held for engineer's murder

PUNE: The wife of the mechanical engineer (49), whose partially burnt body was found on May 31 near Shikrapur, was arrested on Monday night, along with their daughter's boyfriend (23), on the charge of plotting and executing his murder. The engineer's daughter (17), a Standard XI student, was detained after the district rural police claimed to have established her role also in the murder. Her arrested boyfriend, a techie, recorded a confession in this connection, the police said. The body of the mechanical engineer was found at Sanaswadi near Shikrapur, along the Pune-Ahmednagar highway. The rural police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked the mystery behind the case. Inspector Pramod Kshirsagar of the Shikrapur police said, "Investigations revealed that the mechanical engineer worked with a Pune-based private company and stayed with his wife and daughter in a housing society at Wadgaonsheri. He was against his daughter's relationship with the techie, but his wife supported it." Kshirsagar said, "The engineer's wife runs a private coaching class. All was not well between the couple. They would often quarrel over the affair of their daughter. Frustrated over his constant opposition to the relationship, his wife and daughter hatched a plot with the help of latter's boyfriend."
