Punjab Police recovered arms and ammunition from Amritpal's vehicle and his aides, who were arrested earlier in the day. More than 75 members of his outfit, Waris Punjab De, have been detained by Punjab Police so far. A CCTV footage shows Amritpal Singh's aides running away from cops during the chase. As per sources, some of the detained aides of Amritpal Singh have been shifted to Assam Jail. The step was taken to maintain law and order in the state of Punjab. Four top aides of the radical Sikh preacher are currently kept in Dibrugarh central jail in a move Assam Cheif Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed as "police-to-police cooperation". After the arrest, Punjab Police held a press conference to brief the media and said that the police custody of the aides will be sought. Amritsar SSP (rural) Satinder Singh said, "We apprehended them in Mehatpur village in Jalandhar district. Illegal weapons were also recovered from their possession. The detained men will be produced before the court, and we will seek their police custody for further investigation." Express News Service CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Tuesday told the High Court that it was close to catching Khalistani Amritpal Singh. The court of Justice N S Shekhawat was hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by advocate Imaan Singh Khara seeking the release of Amritpal from alleged police custody. Punjab advocate general Vinod Ghai told the court that the radical preacher has not yet been arrested. “Therefore, the arguments should be limited to the contentious issues raised in the petition.“The judge asked the AG to file an affidavit on his claim,’’ said the petitioner. The court also asked the petitioner to file an affidavit to produce evidence that Amritpal Singh was in police custody. The next hearing is due on March 29. The radical preacher and his aide Papalpreet, who is also absconding, were reportedly spotted in Delhi in CCTV footage of March 21. Amritpal reportedly changed his attire and kept his hair open.
