Description de la sourate AL-IKHLAS / LE MONOTHÉISME PUR Contexte de révélation de la sourate Al Ikhlas Cette sourate fut révélée en période mecquoise (avant l'hégire). Un bédouin parmi les idolâtres était venu voir le Prophète Muhammad (que la Paix et la Bénédiction d'Allah soient sur lui) en le questionnant sur ce Dieu dont il prônait l'existence et dont il ordonnait l'adoration exclusive. Après lui avoir répondu « Allah », le bédouin lui demanda de Le lui décrire. Les idolâtres de l'époque utilisaient également le mot « Allah » pour désigner Dieu, mais les attributs qu'ils lui associaient étaient complètement différents de ceux qu'Allah S'est attribués Lui-Même. Les idolâtres étaient donc confus par l’appellation « Allah » qu'employait le Prophète lorsqu'il les appelait à l'Islam. De plus, les bédouins fabriquaient leurs « divinités » de toutes sortes de matériaux précieux tels que l'or, ou l'argent et tout comme les peuples romains, de Grèce ancienne, les hindous, ou autres peuples idolâtres, ils accordaient des lignées à leurs divinités (Gloire et pureté à Allah) qui descendaient d'autres dieux d'après eux. Ils s'attendaient donc à ce que le Prophète, paix et salut sur lui, leur décrive un matériau en particulier, en plus de leur énoncer les ancêtres de cette fameuse divinité (nassab).
