Rohit Sharma And Co suffered a 209-run defeat at The Oval to crown Australia WTC Champions. It is yet another indelible mark on his legacy as a coach, with the former Indian captain yet to guide his team to significant success away from home. 18 months into the job, Rahul Dravid has a catalogue of poor judgement calls, error-prone tactics and inconsistencies making World Cup success paramount. Rahul Dravid: The Great Wall of India

He was the model modern Test cricketer. He had a solid defence, tremendous concentration and discipline but also possessed handsome shots. Dravid is also one of the game's true gentlemen Dravid and Ganguly both made their debuts on the tour of England in 1996. Wristy, shot-making players from the subcontinent have frequently been criticised for failing to adapt to difficult English conditions, where seam and swing are prevalent, but it was to be one of Dravid's most successful venues. On two separate visits to England he hit three centuries, a feat achieved by only one other batsman - a certain Sir Donald Bradman - and averaged 68 over four trips. Not that he confined his biggest runs to England. He was the first player to score centuries in each of the 10 Test-playing nations and reached three figures in each of his 17 years in Test cricket, bar the first and last. He shared in a world record 19 Test century partnerships with Tendulkar, became the first number three to score 10,000 Test runs and is the only outfielder to have taken more than 200 catches. Dravid's nickname 'The Wall' was devised because of innings such as the 270 he made in more than 12 hours against Pakistan in 2004, the longest by an Indian batsman in Test history. Overcast conditions, grass on pitch influenced decision to bowl first: Rahul Dravid

Defensive tactics, not building second line hurting Rahul Dravid's coaching legacy Not being assertive enough with tactical calls, unable to show mirror to some of the seniors, and a failure to build a good feeder line are some of the glaring inconsistencies of Rahul Dravid's tenure as India head coach. Sunil Gavaskar says Virat Kohli should be questioned over shot selection on WTC final's last day An enraged Sunil Gavaskar didn't hold back his criticism towards the Indian players on Sunday, specifically targeting Virat Kohli, following their feeble performance in the World Test Championship final against Australia. Gavaskar expressed his disappointment, labeling the batting display asThis marked their second consecutive loss in aWTC Final, with a significant margin of 209 runs. Facing inquiries from Ganguly asked his former teammate Dravid the logic behind the reason to bowl first and he responded by saying that the decision was not about "tackling pressure". "We decided to bowl first in the Test match because the conditions were overcast and there was quite a lot of grass on the pitch," Dravid said. "So, we thought that it would get easier to bat on later in the pitch and that was the same case here also. Most teams in recent times have opted to field first in England," Dravid said. "We thought that it was a great decision when Aussies were at 70/3 and then we leaked a lot of runs in the next two sessions. Even if we would have gotten them out by 300, we would have been ...

"Rahul's effort at the NCA has nurtured several young cricketing talents who have gone on to represent the country at the international stage," Ganguly said. Why India Chose To Bowl In WTC Final? Head Coach Rahul Dravid Explains

Head coach Rahul Dravid defended India's decision to bowl first in the World Test Championship Final against Australia, saying the call was dictated by overcast conditions and grass on the pitch. In pursuit of a record 444, India were bowled out for 234 in the first session of the fifth day itself to lose their second WTC Final in a row by a massive margin of 209 runs. Dravid was posed some tough questions by Sourav Ganguly, who commentated during the WTC Final. Even if we would have gotten them out by 300, we would have been in the game. We could have had a chance in the fourth innings," the India head coach added. Dravid said the team was confident of chasing down a 300-plus target in the fourth innings. "We had hoped that however behind we were, we could've shown more fight but we knew we needed exceptional performances. It was not a 469-run wicket. We gave away...

In Short • Rahul Dravid's stint as head coach of the senior Indian cricket team started in November 2021 • The Dravid-coached side has now failed to win the T20 World Cup 2022, Asia Cup 2022 and WTC Final • Rahul Dravid has one more ICC tournament to correct course as India coach: ICC ODI World Cup 2023 By Saurabh Kumar: The stage was perfectly set for Rahul Dravid-coached Indian men's cricket team to stage a fifth-day miracle and finally end the ICC title drought. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane came out to resume India's second innings on 164 for 3, needing 280 runs on the final day to chase down Australia's mammoth 444 victory target. However, much to the dismay of Dravid and Indian fans, Scott Boland and his fellow Australian bowlers ripped through the Indian batting order, dismissing the world's top-ranked team for 234 and clinching victory before the lunch break.
