Monsoon 2022 : Due To Heavy Rainfall In Indore Last Night, Smart City Submerged Into Water

Rainfall in Indore crosses 26 inches mark; causes waterlogging & traffic snarls in the city

After around seven days of minimal rain, the monsoon has returned in Madhya Pradesh with heavy downpour in Indore, causing waterlogging on roads, overflowing dams and rivers and disrupting traffic in the city. Reportedly, several areas in Indore including Dwarkapuri, Annapurna, Rajendra Nagar, Vaishali Nagar, Raj Mahal Colony, and others are witnessing a flood-like situation. Indore usually receives 952.20 mm of rainfall every year, compared to 55.65% of the average rainfall received so far in the district. As of now, the district has received 529.9 mm of rain, which is more than half of the average rainfall. As per the Regional Meteorological Department, Indore, a total of 51.7 mm (a little over two inches) of rainfall was recorded at the city airport while the pollution monitoring station at Regal Square recorded over 43 mm of rainfall till 8.30 PM, taking the total rainfall in the city to over 26.8 inches. The ongoing traffic and the pedestrians faced difficulties on the street, whereas, in some areas, rainwater crossed the boundaries of houses. Occasional rainfall and a thunderstorm are also predicted by the MeT Department, with 18.4 mm precipitation in the upcoming days.

On and off moderate to heavy rains are likely for another two to three days which might trigger a flood-like situation in some parts of the city. By India Today Web Desk: Heavy rain lashed parts of Indore on Tuesday, throwing normal life out of gear. Low-lying areas in the city were worst-hit as rainwater entered houses, causing inconvenience to residents. Waterlogging was reported in several ares of the city. Western areas of the city, mainly Dwarkapuri, Annapurna, Rajendra Nagar, Vaishali Nagar, Raj Mahal Colony were majorly affected areas. CARS SWEPT AWAY Cars were seen being washed away as Indore roads turned into rivers, following heavy rain. Videos of cars wading their way through submerged roads were shared on social media. Traffic snarls were witnessed on all roads due to water-logging. The situation in Indore was ruined by a one and a half hour period of heavy rain; cars flowed, and water invaded buildings. BRTS, was one of the most-affected roads. RAIN FORECAST The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, "Depression weakened into a well marked low pressure area today over Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and gradually weaken into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours." The Meteorological department has issued a rain alert in Indore ahead of the monsoon arrival on June 15. The Indore division will experience light showers from today, the weather forecast highlighted.
