Doctors at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai where Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray was hospitalised Tuesday decided to postpone his scheduled hip replacement surgery Wednesday after he tested positive for Covid-19. Dr Jalil Parkar, under whom the MNS chief was admitted, told The Indian Express, “Raj Thackeray was admitted to Lilavati Hospital at 11 am with the intent of undergoing hip replacement surgery by Dr Vinod Agarwal. One of the pre-operative tests for the surgery is gen expert test for Covid-19 for which he turned positive. His surgery was deferred to a date when he becomes negative.” Thackeray, who is suffering from avascular necrosis, may undergo the surgery 10 days later.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray underwent hip replacement surgery at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Monday, the doctors treating him said. He is likely to resume his normal activities in the next two-three months, they said. Mr Thackeray was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night and underwent surgery on Mondya morning, his doctor Jalil Parkar told reporters. "His hip was badly damaged and he was experiencing excruciating pain. He underwent hip replacement surgery in the morning," DrVinod Agarwal, the senior orthopaedic surgeon who operated upon Mr Thackeray said, adding that the operation procedure took around 90 minutes. The surgery went well and the recovery will be good, Dr Agarwal said. "He will be in the hospital for the next five-six days and will require physiotherapy," Dr Agarwal said. When asked about his recovery, Dr Agarwal said Mr Thackeray should be able to perform his normal activities in the next two to three months. Mr Thackeray's physiotherapy will start on Tuesday and will continue for the next five to six days. He will also undergo aggressive physiotherapy once he is discharged, Dr Parkar said. "If everything goes well and if his legs are able to bear his weight, then he can resume normal activities in the next two to three months," he added.
