Nagmani quits 'communal' BJP

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar and Jharkhand, BJP got a jolt on Wednesday, when former Union minister Nagmani quit the party, accusing it of having suddenly turned communal. He announced that he was planning a non-communal alternative to the RJD, even as there were indications that he might join Ram Vilas Paswan''s Lok Janshakti Party. There has been speculation for sometime that Paswan may pull out of his alliance with RJD for the assembly polls. However, it''s unclear whether this threat is just a bargaining counter to get more seats. In his resignation letter faxed to BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu, Nagmani accused BJP of neglecting him during the Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand, from where he was a candidate from the Chhatra LS constituency. "Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda did not canvass for me even for a day. I contested against Inder Singh Namdhari (of JD-U) who was made Speaker of the Jharkhand assembly soon after the polls without consulting me." In his letter, he also said that ever since its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP has been drawing closer to "communal forces", apart from the fact that it is not in a position to provide a viable alternative to Lalu Prasad''s "jungle raj" in Bihar.

PATNA: Samras Samaj Party (SSP) leader and former Union minister Nagmani said PM Narendra Modi was spreading lies by saying that reservation could not be increased beyond 50% and cited the examples of Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu where more than 50% reservation was given. “The BJP will face Delhi-like results because in Bihar because all have united against NDA. Even upper caste people have lost faith in them because there is hardly any leader from the upper caste either at the Centre or in the state,” he said. He criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement pleading for review of the reservation system and said that RSS had intentionally roped in PM Modi to handle Bihar election and made him scapegoat. “Both Modi and Amit Shah are trying to create communal tension and are spreading lies by saying that certain portion of reservation of backward caste would be deducted and given to the minority. Already Pasmanda community from minority is enjoying the benefits of reservation,” he said.
