Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil the statue, billed as the world's second-largest statue in a sitting position, at the 45-acre complex on the outskirts of the city, as per a statement issued by Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji's ashram. The Rs 1,000-crore project was funded by donations from devotees globally. The inner sanctum deity of Sri Ramanujacharya is made of 120 kilos of gold to commemorate the 120 years the saint spent on earth. President Ram Nath Kovind will unveil the inner chamber's golden statue of Ramanuja, weighing 120 kg, on February 13. In his comments, Chinna Jeeyar Swami, said: "We heartily welcome everyone including chief guests, dignitaries, devotees, and people from all walks of life for the grand opening of Statue of Equality. Bhagavad Ramanujacharya has remained a true icon of equality for 1,000 years and this project will ensure his teachings are practiced for at least another 1,000 years." To celebrate the 1,000th birth anniversary of the saint, several events including a 1035 yajna (fire ritual), and spiritual activities such as mass mantra chanting are to be conducted as part of Sri Ramanuja Sahasrabdi 'Samaroham'. Events will begin on February 2, and Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao will be co-hosting the event with Chinna Jeeyar Swami. INDIA, February 4, 2022 (First Post): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the 216-foot-tall “Statue of Equality” in Hyderabad to commemorate the 11th-century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya. Saint Ramanujacharya was born in 1017 in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu to mother Kanthimathi and father Asuri Kesava Somayaji. Saint Ramanujacharya fought for social, cultural, gender, educational and economic discrimination with the foundational conviction that every human is equal regardless of nationality, gender, race, caste or creed. According to the ancient scriptures, he lived for 120 years, a claim which is questioned by modern scholars and experts. In the early 11th and 12th centuries, the saint is said to have traveled across the length and breadth of the country to promote equality and social justice. Today, Ramanujacharya is revered as a Vedic philosopher who revived the Bhakti Movement. As a tribute to his teachings, the statue, known as the “Statue of Equality” was unveiled to commemorate his 1,000th birth anniversary. The 216-feet-tall structure has been built at Muchintal, a village in Telangana. The Statue of Equality is located near the Hyderabad International Airport at Shamshabad and about 1.86 miles east of the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway. President Ramnath Kovind has expressed confidence that Srirama Nagaram, the venue of the Statue of Equality. the 216-ft pancha loha statue of poet saint Sri Ramanujacharya, would become a renowned spiritual destination for people from across the country and abroad.
