Rashid Khan Hattrick: Watch: Rashid Khan takes first hat

KKR were reduced to 155/7 from 155/4 and when the victory looked within touching distance for Gujarat, the match witnessed another turning point. Needing 29 off the last over, Rinku Singh did the unbelievable which never ever happened in IPL as he smashed five successive sixes to snatch victory for KKR from the jaws of defeat. "A tough game for us, especially as a captain," said Rashid, standing in as skipper for the unwell Hardik Pandya. "That is what T20 is all about, it is about entertainment."

By India Today Sports Desk: Gujarat Titans stand-in skipper Rashid Khan on Friday became the first bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the IPL 2023 when he dismissed three KKR batters in his last over of the IPL 2023 match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad. Notably, Rashid removed Andre Russell (1), Sunil Narine (0) and Shardul Thakur (0) in the 17th over to derail KKR's chase. Rashid had conceded 35 runs in three overs without picking up a wicket when he came on to bowl his final over, and Kolkata Knight Riders were cruising at 155 for four in 16 overs. Rashid, on the other hand, struck three times in the first three balls of the 17th over and finished with figures of 4-0-37-3, helping his team come back into the game. Rashid also became the bowler with the most hat-tricks in T20 cricket as this was the fourth hat-trick for the Afghanistan spinner. It all started with Lakshmipathy Balaji, who became the first player in league history to score a hat-trick while playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2008. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, against the Kings XI Punjab (as they were known back then), the right-arm seamer finished with returns of 5/24 and a last-over hat-trick to help CSK win.

Coming back to Rashid, his effort is the 22nd occasion of a hat-trick in the IPL and the first time a GT player has done the same. However, this is the fourth occasion, a player has taken a hat-trick against KKR after Makhaya Ntini (CSK in 2008), Pravin Tambe (RR in 2014), and Yuzvendra Chahal (RR in 2021).

However, Rashid Khan had other ideas as he dismissed the dangerous Russell for just 1(2) on just the first ball of his over. Narine was the second in line as he got holed out to deep mid-wicket on the second ball of the over. The wrist spinner brought out the most lethal weapon from his armoury and bowled a wrong-un to Thakur, who was the player of the match in the last game and trapped him in front of the stumps to complete a hat-trick. It was the 22nd hat trick taken in the history of IPL and Rashid became the 19 th bowler overall to achieve the feat. However, there was another twist in the tale as there was still hope in the KKR camp as Rinku Singh was still at the crease. Rinku Singh scripted improbable win for KKR The game seemed almost finished as KKR needed 29 off the last over with Umesh Yadav on strike. The seamer gave the strike back to Singh on the first ball by Yash Dayal. What followed was absolute carnage as Singh scripted a miraculous victory for Kolkata by smacking five consecutive sixes off the last five balls.
