Kolkata: Tata opens cancer hospital

By Headlines Today Bureau: Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata visited Kolkata on Monday evening to inaugurate the Tata Medical Centre at Rajarhat. Tata's visit to the West Bengal capital came just two days after Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, which drove his pet car project out of Bengal, emerged victorious in the West Bengal polls. Keeping his word, Tata inaugurated the Rs 350-crore hospital, meant to treat and rehabilitate cancer patients. Even after the Nano factory had to be shifted from Singur to Sanand in Gujarat, Tata had repeatedly said that his love for the people of Bengal remains intact and that all other group projects would go on and be finished on time. The Tata Medical Centre is modelled after the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. It has got more than 160 beds and is built over 16 acres. Tata cut the ribbon at the out patients' department in the evening and stayed clear from making any statements to the media.

Assam to confer highest award to Ratan Tata for contribution to build cancer care units

The Assam government and Tata Trust are collaborating for setting up 19 Cancer Care Units in the state. The foundation stone for the project was laid in June 2018 in presence of Ratan Tata. Tata Trusts had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Assam government during the Advantage Assam - Global Investment Summit 2018, held in February that year, giving a formal shape to the project. 'Delighted to announce that the Government of Assam has decided to confer its highest civilian award, Assam Baibhav, to @RNTata2000 Chairman, @tatatrusts for his exceptional contribution towards furthering cancer care in Assam,' Sarma Tweeted. The highest civilian award was announced on the occasion of Asom Divas, celebrated on December 2 every year to commemorate the rule of Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha, who founded the Ahom dynasty in Assam that ruled the state for 600 years. Earlier known as 'Assam Ratna', the award was renamed as 'Assam Baibhav' by the Sarma-led government in September this year. Ratan Tata says 'I dedicate my last years to health' at cancer hospital inauguration. Watch

Industrialist Ratan Tata joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi in laying the foundation stone of several new cancer hospitals in Assam on Thursday. While addressing the people there, Tata said, "I dedicate my last years to health." He was awarded the "Assam Baibhav", the State's highest civilian award, on February 16 by the CM.

The Tata Medical Center (TMC) was inaugurated on May 16, 2011, by Ratan Tata. It is a philanthropic initiative aimed specifically at helping cancer patients from the east and northeast of India and also from Bangladesh. The centre is led by its director Dr Mammen Chandy. TMC’s stated mission is to promote the prevention and cure of cancer patients and provide rehabilitation and palliative care to them. A special emphasis will be given to children suffering from cancer. TMC is a quality cancer-care facility that caters especially, though not exclusively, to the poor of the region. The first phase of the project has space for 170 patients, with a provision for extending capacity to a further 150 patients (figures do not include outpatients). About 50 per cent of the beds are earmarked for free treatment of the underprivileged. The remaining 50 per cent of patients will be in the subsidised or paying categories, and the money accrued will be utilised to support the institution. The rest of the centre’s expenses will be covered by charitable donations. Mr Tata, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday inaugurated seven state-of-the-art cancer hospitals and laid the foundation stone for seven more. "Today, seven new cancer hospitals have been inaugurated in Assam. There was a time, even one hospital getting opened up in seven years was a thing to celebrate. Times have changed now. I have been told three more cancer hospitals will be ready for your service in a few months," PM Modi said. Ratan Tata to lay foundations for a 300 bed cancer hospital in Ranchi

RANCHI: Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons and the chairman of Tata Trusts, will lay the foundations for a the hospital cum research center on Saturday. The hospital will come up on 23 acres of land donated by the state department of health, medical education and family welfare department to the Tata Trusts in Kanke on the outskirts of the state capital earlier this year. State government had said seeds of the hospital were sown during the inaugural session of the Momentum Jharkhand Global Investment Summit held in February 2017 when Jharkhand chief minister With Jharkhand lacking a robust cancer treatment infrastructure in its state run tertiary and secondary healthcare centers, the health department has approached the Tata Trusts to handhold in setting up screening facilities in government healthcare centers.

Tata Trusts to Contribute ₹1,000 Crore to Treat Cancer Patients

To improve cancer-care facilities in India, and to give better access to treatment for cancer patients in five states, Tata Trusts has decided to contribute ₹1,000 crore to help the central government. Ratan Tata, who leads the Trust, has expressed his desire to open affordable cancer treatment centres. New hospitals will come up in Assam, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The cancer-care facilities in Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh will be created afresh, reports The government will use the ₹1,000 crores on better infrastructure and medical equipment. The current Indian Railways cancer institute and research centre will be upgraded in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, which has been taken over by the Trust recently.
