‘Ravanasura’ movie review: This Ravi Teja film directed by Sudheer Varma is a half

‘We are all bad in someone’s story’. ‘I am not in danger, I am the danger’. Director Sudheer Varma uses these widely popular references to Joker and Breaking Bad to make his leading man, Ravi Teja as a metaphor for Ravanasura, seem dark and evil. He also juxtaposes a half portrait of Joker with the wickedly grinning face of Ravi Teja. There’s potential in that frame for an unnerving thriller that can also discuss good versus evil beyond the binary. There’s scope for plenty of greys. The Telugu film Ravanasura begins with a murder in a public space, with the accused having no memory of having committed the crime. Elsewhere, we are introduced to Ravindra (Ravi Teja), a junior criminal lawyer under Kanaka Mahalakshmi (Faria Abdullah). He is goofy and flirtatious and for a while, it seems like any other Ravi Teja film. He tries to convince Kanaka Mahalakshmi to take up the case of Harika (Megha Akash) simply to try and win over the latter. There is a mandatory action sequence to introduce the hero and a couple of songs to establish his equation with Kanaka Mahalakshmi and Harika. Ravanasura Cast: Ravi Teja, Sushanth, Megha Akash, Faria Abdullah Direction: Sudheer Varma Music: Harshavardhan Rameshwar, Bheems Ceciroleo It takes some time for the narrative to find its groove and reveal that Ravindra’s silliness is a facade. Meanwhile, crime branch officer Hanumantha Rao (Jayaram) suspects something fishy. While his team discovers the modus operandi of a crime, Ravindra begins to ...

Ravanasura movie review: Ten

Coming after his first Rs 100 crore movie in a career spanning over 80 films, Ravanasura carries heavy expectations from The film’s title sequence shows the gruesome murder of pharma approval agency officer, Jaya Prakash (played by Sampath Raj). Ravanasura, however, begins on a comic note as we meet Ravindra (Ravi Teja), who is a junior lawyer and works for Kanaka Mahalakshmi (Faria Abdulla). Hyper Aadi plays his sidekick with the sharp tongue. Ravindra’s history with Lakshmi, and his escapades runs the story for some time. As one murder leads to another, it is revealed that a few men have been caught red-handed while committing murders, but have no memory of the act. Ravindra takes up Sampath’s case even as he falls in love with Harika (Megha Akash). Meanwhile, the case is assigned by the commissioner (Murali Sharma) to ACP Hanmantha Rao (Jayaram), who is two months away from retirement. The ACP finds many similar cases where accused claim that they don’t remember killing people. His investigation leads him to makeup artist Saketh Ram (Sushanth) – a prosthetics expert. Saketh himself is a victim here as his girlfriend Janaki (Daksha Nagarkar) has been kidnapped and he is being forced to help the criminal in creating masks of people, who are then framed for murder. Who is the mastermind, what is his connection with Ravindra and why does Ravi Teja proclaim himself to be Ravanasura form the crux of the rest of the film. Though Shrikanth Vissa is credited with the story and d...

Ravanasura Movie Review: Ravi Teja shines in this feeble attempt at a thriller

Story: Junior lawyer Ravindra (Ravi Teja) is a goof whom no one seems to take seriously. But there's more to him beneath the surface. Review: With Ravanasura, Sudheer Varma attempts to make an “entertainer” that begins as your run-of-the-mill commercial drama, phases into being a thriller, and ends up being a film that doesn’t leave you satisfied either way. The director seems to meander on things that don’t need to be explained in depth and rush through key points of the story, making this film one hot mess. The saving grace? Only Ravi Teja. Junior lawyer Ravindra (Ravi Teja) works under his ex-crush Kanaka Mahalakshmi (Faria Abdullah) but is seemingly not very good at his job. He goofs up a lot and still retains his job because – you guessed it right, he’s the hero in a commercial film. And true to heroes like him, he likes to annoy his boss because she’s a woman and happens to be his ex-crush too. She’s now happily married to Sekhar (Sriram). One fine day, Harika (Megha Akash) walks into his life and office both. Even as he swoons at her, she tells him her father Vijay Talwar (Sampath) is wanted for murder. The issue? Her father can’t seem to remember committing the crime. Like any sane man, Ravindra doesn’t believe him but he takes up the case because he’d like to help his "future father-in-law." Harika isn’t in on this plan but that doesn’t matter, does it? Then there are characters like a police officer called Ruhana (Pujita Ponnada), a mysterious guy called Saketh (...
