Reflections on Swami Vivekananda and Sri Ramakrishna

Part V — Reflections Reflections on Swami Vivekananda and Sri Ramakrishna Vivekananda, the great Vedantin of indomitable courage, voiced forth, “Freedom — physical freedom, mental freedom, and spiritual freedom — is the watchword of the Upanishads.” In order to achieve freedom, we need energy, power, and spirit. ☙ Meditation is our soul’s cry for our life’s perfect perfection. Perfection has not yet dawned on earth, but one day it will. Perfection is the ideal of human life. To quote Swami Vivekananda: “None of us has yet seen an ideal human being, and yet we are told to believe in him. None of us has yet seen an ideally perfect man, and yet without that ideal we cannot progress.” Meditation alone can give birth to perfection. Meditation carries us beyond the frustration of the senses, beyond the limitation of the reasoning mind. And, finally, meditation can present us with the breath of perfection. ☙ Swami Vivekananda, never even pronounced his Master's name when he first came here to the West. Vivekananda felt that if he uttered his Master's name the world would misunderstand him. The message he carried was not in the person of his Master but in his teachings. Sri Ramakrishna's teachings represented the union and synthesis of all religions. ☙ There is a great difference between liberation and realisation. Liberation is much inferior to realisation. One can reach liberation in one incarnation, and realisation in some later incarnation. Or one can become liberated and real...

"Reflections on Swami Vivekananda's Speeches At the World Parliament of Religions, 1893" by Ronald Neufeldt

Abstract Much has been written about Swami Vivekananda's appearance at the World Parliament of Religions in 1893. On the whole, the assessments of his appearance from both academics and non-academics has been positive, emphasising Vivekananda's contributions to religious harmony in the world. Vivekananda was and remains an exemplary spokesperson for the enduring themes of the Ramakrishna mission, in particular for the idea that all religions are true inasmuch as they lead to the same goal.

Reflections Swami Vivekananda

Book Description Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. The grandest idea in the religion of the Vedanta is that we may reach the same goal by different paths; and these paths I have generalised into four, viz. those of work, love, psychology, and knowledge. But you must, at the same time, remember that these divisions are not very marked and quite exclusive of each other. Each blends into the other. But according to the type which prevails, we name the divisions. It is not that you can find men who have no other faculty than that of work, nor that you can find men who are no more than devoted worshippers only, nor that there are men who have no more than mere knowledge. These divisions are made in accordance with the type or the tendency that may be seen to prevail in a man. We have found that, in the end, all these four paths converge and become one. All religions and all methods of work and worship lead us to one and the same goal.
