PM Narendra Modi's 'Ramayan' jibe at Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury triggers Mahabharat

NEW DELHI: Chowdhury threatened to move a privilege motion against junior home minister Rijiju, however, clarified that he was only trying to show how the PM had kept his cool. "Despite such (a) vexatious laugh by Renuka Chaudhary, the PM didn't get irritated," he added. Congress members claimed the Earlier in the day, Congress MP Kumari Selja had told reporters that all women MPs of Congress met Naidu and demanded an apology from the PM. In a statement, Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev dubbed Modi's comment "utterly sexist" and "downright distasteful". She demanded that Modi apologise to Chowdhury and the nation "for speaking in a manner that encourages disrespectful behaviour towards women". Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Modi had claimed the concept of Aadhaar was mooted in 1998 by the then home minister L K Advani. As Modi sought to take away credit from the Congress government for Aadhaar, Chowdhury burst into a guffaw that resonated across the chamber and drew the disapproval of Chairman Naidu.

Influence on Kaikeyi [ ] As family servant of Kaikeyi, Manthara lived with her from the time of her birth. When she hears that King Dasharatha is planning to make his eldest son, Rama, prince regent (rather than Bharata, his child by Kaikeyi), she flies into a rage and reports the news to Kaikeyi. Kaikeyi is initially pleased and hands Manthara a pearl necklace. A folio from Ayodhya Kand manuscript Manthara reminds Kaikeyi of the two boons Dasharatha had given her when she had once saved his life in a celestial battle. Kaikeyi had kept these boons for later and Manthara declares that this is the right time to ask for them. She advises Kaikeyi to lie in her room wearing soiled clothes and no ornaments. She should weep and cry, pretending anger. When Dasharatha would come to console her, she should immediately ask for the boons. The first boon would be that Bharata would be made the king. The second boon would be that Rama should be sent into the forest for exile for fourteen years. Manthara reckons that the fourteen-year banishment would be long enough for Bharata to consolidate his position in the Empire and weave his way into people's hearts. Rebuked by Shatrughna [ ] Manthara appears only once in the Ramayana after Rama's banishment. Having been rewarded by Kaikeyi with costly clothing and je...

You laugh...and there is no GST on laughter. I don't require permission to laugh after being a five-time MP. I have shattered the myth of being stereotyped," she added. On a lighter note, Ms Chowdhury said her laughter had always been spontaneous but now, she had become conscious about it. "I had challenged the authority with my laughter. Parliament makes laws, but we need to educate the lawmakers on how to treat women as their equals and that they are here in their own rights. Parliament is a r...
