Jabalpur: A youth has been arrested from Rewa district in connection with the suicide of a 20-year-old national baseball player in Jabalpur. The accused has been charged with abetment to suicide and other relevant sections of the IPC, while investigations are still ongoing. The youth, identified as Abdul Mansoori, is a resident of Rewa district and works as a fruit vendor. He had initially introduced himself as Rajan and had befriended the deceased. Kranti Barve, the in-charge of Sanjeevani Nagar police station, said, “During preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the deceased had befriended a youth named Rajan on a social media platform about a year ago. Later, it was discovered that the actual name of the accused is Abdul Mansoori. The deceased had ended her relationship with him. The accused had recorded some videos of the deceased and was demanding money by using those videos as leverage.” “He has been charged with abetment to suicide, harassment, extortion, and relevant sections of the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. A detailed investigation is underway. The parents of the deceased allege that he was pressuring her to change her religion, which is also being investigated. The accused's phone has been seized and sent for forensic examination,” she added.
