By Express News Service BHUBANESWAR: A government engineer was killed in a freak accident when his stationary car was rammed by a speeding truck near Palasuni square here on Monday morning.The deceased Sumanta Das (36) of Aiginia in Bhubaneswar was posted at Barachana in Jajpur district as sub-divisional officer (electrical). He was going to office when the unfortunate incident took place around 9.10 am. According to police, a truck stopped on National Highway-16 near Palasuni as some people were crossing the road. A car, another lorry and Das’ vehicle, which were all in the same lane, also came to a halt.With the lorry ahead halting, Das stopped his car, but a Hyva truck behind him sped on and hit his vehicle. His car was crushed between the two heavy vehicles. Das didn’t survive the impact. Odisha Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered his body from the mangled remains of the car. “Cutters were used to cut the car and recover his body. The entire operation lasted for about half an hour,” said assistant fire officer, SK Biswal. The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed in a nearby establishment. The truck could be seen ramming into Das’s car, which then dashed into the stationary truck ahead. The truck was pushed with such force that it hit the car in front. A car was crushed between two trucks in a horrific accident in Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar. As per reports, driver died on the spot after his car was crushed into pieces. The dump truck also hit another car which swerved to the left and hit a motorcycle before ramming into the divider. 3 other people sustained injuries in the accident and are being treated at the hospital. Train accident: Odisha consults neighbours as 82 bodies remain unidentified

By Press Trust of India: With as many as 82 bodies of victims of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said, "We are also coordinating with other state government officials to verify the claimants and speed up the identification process." Kulange also said that the BMC is coordinating between Railways and AIIMS Bhubaneswar. ALSO READ | He said the officials of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have been requested to help expedite body identification. "A control room has been set up to assist relatives of the victims. Food and lodging facilities are also being provided to people coming to receive bodies," he added. AIIMS Bhubaneswar said out of the 162 bodies kept at the institute, 80 bodies have been handed over to the families of deceased persons while 82 others remain unidentified. What has come as a problem is that some bodies are being claimed by multiple families, Therefore, DNA sampling is the only scientific process left for handling over the bodies. “We have collected about 50 DNA samples. In the first batch 29 samples were sent to AIIMS Delhi and its test reports are expected within two more days. Odisha: Youth killed as hyva truck rams into 3 cars, 1 bike in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A youth has been killed in a scary road accident on Palasuni Sqaure in Bhubaneswar around 9.30 am on Monday morning. Reportedly, a truck stopped on the NH following which one blue and one white colour car came to a standstill behind it. Thereafter, the speeding Hyva truck hit the white colour car on its rear which hit across the divider to the opposite side of the road on the bike. Subsequently, the hyva tuck hit the blue car, bearing registration number OR-04-M-7697, crushing it between the two trucks. As a result one person was crushed to death inside the car. The Mancheswar police along with ODRAF team arrived at the spot and initiated the rescue operation of the deceased youth. Drivers of other vehicles have been admitted to Capital Hospital, Unit-6. The body has also been sent to the hospital for post mortem procedure. A probe has also been initiated into the deadly accident. The whole scene of the accident on NH has been captured in the CCTV camera that has been installed in the area. The identity of the deceased has not yet been ascertained. The driver of the hyva truck has escaped from the crime spot. Further details into the accident is awaited.

Bhubaneswar: The transport department has asked truck operators transporting sand to cover the vehicles with tarpaulin for the safety and convenience of motorists. Regional transport officers (RTOs) have been asked to take action against violators. State commerce and transport secretary Usha Padhee on Thursday wrote to the RTOs, drawing their attention to accidents caused by sand-laden trucks and tractors. At least 5,026 road accidents occurred in 2022, involving two-wheelers, which is about 43% of total accidents. Many of the accidents involving two-wheelers took place after the bikes skidded on the roads covered with sand, Padhee wrote. She said sand, gravel and soil, while being transported in trucks normally fall on the bikers who are right behind, blinding them and leading to accidents. “It is necessary to see that trucks and tractor trolleys carrying sand, stone and other construction materials shall cover such vehicles by tarpaulin or polythene so that neither any dust nor splinters falls on the eyes of bikers. The enforcement officers are required to take precautionary measures to prevent the menace,” Padhee’s letter said. The transport secretary said action should immediately be taken against the violators under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Two youths killed in road accident in Bhubaneswar

As per reports, an unidentified vehicle hit the bike-borne youths from behind on NH-16 near Vani Vihar in the city and sped away. The passers-by rescued the youths in critical condition and rushed them to the Capital Hospital here where doctors declared the duo “brought dead”. The identity of the deceased duo was not known till the report was filed. The deceased youths were reportedly carrying brown sugar packets when the mishap occurred. Bhadrak/Talcher: As many as four persons were killed and two others sustained grievous injuries in two separate incidents of road mishap which took place in Bhadrak and Angul districts, today. The first incident was reported in the afternoon from near a private college at Ranital locality on NH-16 under the Rural police limits of Bhadrak. Two youths were killed and one more was injured after an SUV in which they were travelling had a puncture on its front tyre leading to the fatal road mishap. Identities of the two deceased persons have not been ascertained yet, a police official said. The ill-fated vehicle (bearing registration number WB-38 AS-2696) was on its way from neighbouring West Bengal to Bhubaneswar when it rammed into a truck from behind and met with an accident. However, the truck driver fled from the spot along with the vehicle soon after the mishap. Two boarders died on the spot and the third person is undergoing treatment in Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH). Earlier in the day, a man and his son were killed on the spot and his nephew became severely injured in the road accident that took place near Godibandha of Talcher locality.
