NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman died a painful death after her scooty met with an accident in the midnight of New Year, and her clothes got entangled in the wheel of a car due to which she was dragged for 4-5 km in outer Delhi's Khanjawala area. The body of the woman was found on the road without any clothes. Her body was sent to the SGM hospital, Mangolpuri, where she was declared brought dead. The accident took place hours after one of the victims, identified as Lakhan, celebrated the birthday of his son with his sister's family at his house. The accident took place near the NLU traffic signal on Thursday night when 37-year-old Lakhan was on the way to drop home his sister, her husband and their daughter. A case was registered at the Dwarka North police station and the accused SUV driver, identified as Abrar, a resident of Najafgarh, has been nabbed, the DCP said. DWARKA ROAD ACCIDENT While Lakhan and his 30-year-old sister Foola were declared dead at the hospital, his 10-year-old niece Diksha succumbed to her injuries on Friday afternoon, the police official said. The brother-in-law of the deceased, Maate, who works as a labourer, has been injured. He told PTI that the offending vehicle was headed towards their bike at a high speed before it rammed into them. "We had gone to attend the birthday party of Lakhan's son. We insisted that we would return home by taking a rickshaw, but Lakhan said he would drop us off as it was quite late," Maate told PTI. "When we reached the NLU red light, a speeding car hit us. After the accident, I fell unconscious and later found myself in hospital. I have fractured my left leg and left thumb," he added. The deceased was identified as Manisha Kumari (18) while the other two injured girls, Kalpana and Sanjana, have been moved to Balaji hospital for medical assistance. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Sharma said that a PCR call was received at Paschim Vihar West police station regarding the road accident at 8.08 a.m. after which the police staff rushed to the spot. As one girl died on the spot, the police shifted her body to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. The senior official informed that the offending vehicle has been taken into police custody and the driver of the vehicle is on the run. "Two dedicated teams have been constituted to trace the accused driver as well as the owner of the vehicle," he said. Meanwhile, the accident led to a heavy traffic jam on the road as the relatives of the dead girl sat in the middle of the road for some time.
