IND vs WI: Will Rohit Sharma lead India in Tests on West Indies tour? Here's a crucial update A lot is being said about Rohit Sharma's captaincy future especially in Tests after India lost the WTC Final against Australia last week. Will he remain India's Test captain going forward? Read more for details... Image Source : AP Rohit Sharma Team India is set to face West Indies next month in the two-match Test series away from home. This will be their first assignment in the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The team played some excellent cricket in the last two WTC cycles but failed to win the final on both occasions losing to New Zealand and Australia respectively. Meanwhile, there is a huge update on If the sources privy to the developments are to be believed, Rohit Sharma is likely to lead India in West Indies in the longest format but the future remains uncertain for him. Though Rohit, the captain, has given decent results, his batting has come under the scanner in recent times. Age is also a big factor as Rohit Sharma will turn 38 by the time the new WTC cycle ends. "These are baseless stuff that Rohit will be removed from captaincy. Yes, whether he will last the whole two-year WTC cycle is a big question as he would be nearly 38 when the third edition ends in 2025. As of now, I believe that Shiv Sunder Das and his colleagues will have to take a call after the two Tests and looking at his batting form," a senior BCCI source told PTI. Moreover, India will not be pl...

BCCI to sack Rohit Sharma after West Indies series

A report by the Press Trust of India (PTI) suggests that Rohit’s future as captain beyond the West Indies series is in doubt. If the 36-year-old fails to perform well in the upcoming series starting on July 12, the selectors might consider a change in leadership. However, a senior BCCI source dismissed the rumors, stating that there are currently no grounds to remove Rohit from the captaincy. The source emphasized that Rohit’s batting form will be evaluated after the West Indies series before any decision is made. There is ample time for the selectors to deliberate and finalize a decision, as there are no Test matches scheduled until the team’s tour of South Africa in December. It is also mentioned that the new chairman of selectors will join the panel before that time. Interestingly, Rohit initially hesitated to take on the role of Test captain when Virat Kohli resigned in January 2022 due to fitness issues. It was only after convincing from former president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah that Rohit accepted the responsibility, following KL Rahul’s unsuccessful stint as captain in South Africa. Having captained India in seven Test matches, with only one played outside of India, Rohit has led the team to four victories, suffered two defeats, and achieved one draw. Despite the disappointment of the WTC final, he successfully guided the team to victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.

Players Who Can Replace Rohit Sharma As India's Captain In ICC WTC 2023

Image Source: Twitter Players who can replace Rohit Sharma as India’s captain in ICC WTC 2023-25: History has repeated itself once again as team India succumbed against Australia in the grand stage to win the ICC WTC title. Australia defeated India in the ICC WTC Final at the Oval in London by 209 runs to become the first team in the world to complete their ICC trophy cabinet. While there may be numerous reasons why India has not won any major games like ICC Finals for a decade, captaincy has always been one of the things that has come up as a key issue. Some say India adopts a defensive approach in the important games despite playing a fearless brand of cricket throughout the cycle and some believe there is some error in the captaincy and management. It can be noted that with India losing to Australia in the ICC WTC Final 2023, skipper Rohit Sharma’s record of performing well in important games has come to an end. His record of not losing a single final has been shattered by the mighty Aussies, who never fail to perform in crucial games. Following the loss the fingers are certain to be raised at the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma as well. Also, it doesn’t matter how decorated your hat is in franchise cricket, it counts nothing if your side has failed to win ICC championships over and over again. Moreover, Rohit Sharma is also at the fag end of his career. His age, 36, doesn’t do any good to him and the BCCI will look to groom a new captain, although, not immediately, but the...

Ravichandran Ashwin Or Virat Kohli Replace Rohit Sharma As Test Captain For Next WTC Cycle?

The chorus is growing on social media to replace Rohit Sharma with Ravichandran Ashwin or Virat Kohli as the Test captain after India's WTC final loss vs Australia but in reality, the BCCI selectors will have their task cut out in trying to find a new captain in Test cricket as an aging Indian side stare at a transition of enormous proportions - given the top six barring Shubman Gill are all above 34, that includes the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Mohammed Siraj being the youngest among the current crop of bowlers. The average age of the Indian squad that took on Australia in the WTC final was 31.9 with Mohammed Siraj (29) being the youngest among the bowlers. Gill might just be a little too young to take over as the captain and Kohli might not be interested to take over the role for the second time. While Ashwin or Ajinkya Rahane can be good options but age is not on their side, and neither their place in the Indian Test setup. Ashwin was surprisingly dropped for the WTC final and Rahane just made a comeback into the scheme of things. Not likely options that the selectors would be banking on. KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah are the only feasible options going forward, given the fact that they have led the side in the past in absence of Rohit but both are injury prone and might not be a permanent solution. The selectors will have to take a call sooner or later and Hardik Pandya not making himself available for the longer format of the game doesn't make their job any...
