Zimbabwe's Ryan Burl was 'trying to emulate Yuvraj Singh' when he hammered B'desh bowler for 34 runs in T20I

In the third T20I between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh earlier this month, Zimbabwe’s batting all-rounder Ryan Burl was on fire as he scored 54 runs from just 28 balls. The 28-year-old's innings was laced with 6 sixes and 2 fours, and out of the half-a-dozen maximums he hammered, five of them came in one over of the innings in which he accumulated a total of 34 runs. "We would like to try and win the series. But it’s India and one of the best teams in the world. They are not going to put up an easy fight; it’s going to be difficult. Hopefully, with our home ground advantage, we can try and pull a cat out of the hat and put out something special," the 28-year-old added.

Burl had slammed three sixes and an equal number of fours in...

Twitter Reactions: Ryan Burl shines as Zimbabwe record maiden T20I series win over Bangladesh

Zimbabwe bagged a brilliant win over Bangladesh in the third T20I and scripted history by winning the three-match T20I series by 2-1. Zimbabwe rode on Ryan Burl’s heroics with the bat and the bowlers’ skillsets as they defeated the visitors for the first time ever in a T20I series and unlocked a new achievement by winning the series finale in Harare. Zimbabwe’s top-order batters started off well, but Bangladesh managed to pick three wickets in the powerplay to take an upper hand in the game. Within the first 10 overs, the hosts had lost five of their batters as four Bangladesh bowlers shared the wickets. Burl took some time to settle in the game before starting off with his power-hitting prowess. He smacked Nasum Ahmed for five sixes and a four in an over and amassed 34 runs off the six deliveries. He then took some singles before hitting Mahedi Hasan for a monstrous six and completed his half-century off just 24 deliveries. The game had completely slipped out of Bangladesh’s hand as Zimbabwe ended on a high note. Zimbabwe bowlers did the job in the second half Bangladesh’s chase didn’t start well as Liton Das had to walk back in the second over. Bangladesh failed to gain momentum as the hosts kept picking wickets at regular intervals and restricted the visitors from scoring much. Just like Victor Nyauchi ended his four-over spell by picking three wickets and conceding just 29 runs. While Brad Evans bagged two wickets, Wessley Madhevere, Sean Williams, and Luke Jongwe grab...

Ryan Burl, bowlers power Zimbabwe A to edge Pakistan Shaheens

HARARE: Middle-order batter Ryan Burl played a fighting 69-run knock before Tendai Chatara’s five-for lifted Zimbabwe A to edge Pakistan Shaheens by 24 runs in the first one-day of the six-match series here on Wednesday. Pakistan Shaheens’ batting lineup faltered against Zimbabwe A bowlers and could raise 210 before bundling out in 47 overs despite Mubasir Khan’s gritty 49-run knock. The touring side got off to a dismal start to the run chase as they lost three wickets for just 29 runs as Saim Ayub (8), Imran Butt (6) and Muhammad Huraira (3) could manage single-digits. Following an early slump, Kamran Ghulam and Hussain Talat attempted to steady the sinking ship and anchored it by putting on a crucial 48-run partnership for the fourth wicket. The pair appeared to have settled down and started to race up the run rate until Wellington Masakadza claimed a much-needed breakthrough for his side in the form of Talat’s prized wicket. He scored 29 off 25 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and a six. Kamran then partnered with Haseebullah Khan and could add 29 runs before Masakadza struck again to dent the visitors’ pursuit by removing the former. He struck five boundaries on his way to a 63-ball 42. Following Kamran’s dismissal, Mubasir Khan joined Haseebullah in the middle and the pair pushed their side closer to the total with a solid 60-run partnership. When the pair looked in all sorts of control, Masakadza once again drew a breakthrough for his side as he removed Haseebulla...
