With just two days remaining for the grand release of the film Adipurush, the production team and actors are leaving no stone unturned to promote the movie on the largest scale possible. The team, including Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, recently visited the Tirumala temple as part of promotions and also have been attending multiple events over the last month. However, one aspect of the promotions that have not escaped the notice of fans is the absence of Saif Ali Khan from the promotional events for Adipurush. Saif Ali Khan plays Ravana, a very crucial character in the film based on the Ramayana and his absence has left some fans wondering why he is not attending the events. A Reddit user was so intrigued to know the answer that he created a thread discussing the actor’s absence from the film promotions. Some thought that the team was deliberately keeping Saif away since he has been known to make controversial statements during film promotions. The actor portrayed the role of Udaybhan Singh Rathore, the menacing villain opposite Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji Malusare in the director’s much-loved film titled Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Saif received a wide appreciation for his performance in the film, however, the alleged manipulative politics of the film including the ‘safronisation’ of a historical era was called out by many viewers. In fact, in a statement made by Saif days after the release of the film, he mentioned that he should have spoken about the ‘twisted’ historical facts shown in the film. Saif had said, “For some reason, I didn’t take a stand. Maybe next time I would. I was very excited to play the role because it’s a delicious role. But when people say this is history, I don’t think this is history. I am quite aware of what the history was. I don’t think there was a concept of India till perhaps the British gave it one. I don’t think there is really any constructive point in arguing about loudly, provided you yourself know why you’re doing it.”

The final trailer of Hours after the trailer was launched, many fans have taken to social media to praise the actor’s portrayal of the asura king and demanded that the makers of Adipurursh give them more of Lankesh. “I don’t know about the trailer but Saif Ali Khan is the best part in this mess,” tweeted one fan. Another added, “Saif in the bhikshu garb looks so menacing. He will do well.” However, many argued that the fleeting glimpses of Ravana were good for the build up. Film trade analyst Joginder Tuteja tweeted, “Saw #AdipurushActionTrailer again and one thing that strikes me is that “less is more” in this case. I am talking about #SaifAliKhan here. Felt it earlier and believe it all the more now, he is going to be the dark horse of #Adipurush. What screen presence does he have here. Truly menacing.” This is Saif’s second collaboration with director Om Raut. Interestingly, he played the antagonist in his last film as well – Ajay Devgn-starrer Tanhaji, which had him in the role of Mughals’ Rajput commander Uday Bhan. Adipurush releases in theatres on June 16.

OM RAUT ON SAIF ALI KHAN'S RAVAN IN ADIPURUSH In an interview with Aaj Tak, Om Raut spoke about Saif's character portrayal as Ravan in the film. "Our Ravan in today's time is demonic, he is cruel. The one who has abducted our Goddess Sita is cruel. We have shown what Ravan looks like in today's time. This is not a film or a project for us. This is a mission for us. Our film is a symbol of our devotion and we need everyone's blessings for this. Whosoever is speaking about the film are our elders. I am listening to all of them and taking note of everything. When you will watch the film in January 2023, I will not disappoint anyone," the filmmaker said. ABOUT ADIPURUSH Directed by Om Raut, the film also stars Sunny Singh and Vatsal Sheth.
