Additional prosecution officers Nagendra Kumar Mishra and Vijay Pandey said that after bringing Samar from Ghaziabad following his arrest on Friday, the Sarnath police had produced him before the remand magistrate Kirti Singh. The court ordered to send him to jail in 14-days judicial custody, they said adding, police had moved application to take him on 72-hour custody remand for interrogation but the court did not give any order on it. Samar had appeared in court earlier in the day. Samar was detained in Ghaziabad by the Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly abetting the suicide of the Bhojpuri actress. The accused is a Bhojpuri singer as well. Akanksha took her own life on March 26, 2023. The 25-year-old actress was discovered hanging from a fan while wearing a stole. She had travelled to Varanasi to film a film and was staying in a hotel. Following Akanksha's death, a warrant was issued for Samar and his brother Sanjay Singh. The Bhojpuri actress was discovered dead in a hotel room in Varanasi's Sarnath district. The day after Akanksha died, her mother went to the police station and filed a complaint against Samar and his brother. For three years, she claimed, Samar and Sanjay Singh "harassed and tortured" her daughter. Based on the mother of the actress's allegation, the suspects were charged under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. (IPC). VARANASI: Hours after a fast-track court ordered to send Samar Singh - the main accused in Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey suicide case under police remand on Wednesday afternoon - Sanjay Singh, an another accused in the case was arrested in a joint action of crime branch and Sarnath police in the evening. Additional commissioner of police Santosh Kumar Singh said that following collection of intelligence regarding movement of Sanjay, the cops of crime branch and Sarnath cordoned Azamgarh highway late afternoon. Sanjay was arrested from Azamgarh underpass, he said. After Akanksha’s body was found hanging inside her hotel room on March 26, her mother Madhu Singh had lodged an FIR against Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh and his friend Sanjay Singh at Sarnath police station on March 27. A FIR has been registered against singer Samar Singh and his brother Sanjay Singh on charges of abetment of suicide and other relevant sections under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Sarnath police station SHO Dharmpal Singh said. He also mentioned that the FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint by the actress' mother According to AajTak, Akanksha Dubey suffered from depression in 2018 and had taken a professional break. Varanasi: Application of police to seek custody of Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh, main accused in Akanksha Dubey abetment to suicide case, was heard in the court of Surbhi Pathak, civil judge (junior division) Fast Track Court, on Monday. The judge ordered for Samar to be produced before the court on Tuesday. Samar was arrested from Ghazibad and produced before remand magistrate on Saturday after which he was sent to jail. On Monday, hearing began on the application of police to seek Samar’s 72-hour custody remand for further interrogation in Akanksha Dubey suicide case. For Samar, a team of defence lawyers appeared before the court. His advocate Anuj Yadav said the team sought a copy of police application for Samar’s custody in order to file objection. District government counsel (criminal) Alok Chandra Shukla said court fixed Tuesday to continue the hearing on the plea for Samar’s police custody remand. The court also asked to produce Samar before it on Tuesday, he added. In their application, police have mentioned that Samar was arrested from Ghaziabad but his mobile phone could not be recovered. As Samar’s mobile contains vital information and evidence of the case, police are seeking his custody remand.
