But we always make a weekend or a 2 to 3 day trip to Pondicherry. Just because Pondicherry is easily accessible by road from Chennai and I can stop at my favorite Pondicherry, it has a vibe that is not found anywhere else in India. Quiet beaches and peaceful resorts are the two defining aspects of the town’s bustling, yet easygoing life. It has a unique blend of spiritual aura, French colonial heritage, Tamil culture and the cosmopolitan flair of many nationalities in a small but varied town. Pondy, as it is fondly called, is a haven for all types of travelers. Here is how we spend a weekend in Pondicherry at the Dune Eco Village & Spa. Setup in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo Ghose, an Indian freedom fighter, poet, philosopher, and yogi, the ashram makes Pondy an important destination for spiritual seekers as well as tourists. Auroville (meaning City of Dawn) is an experimental township founded in 1968 by Mirra Richard (known as The Mother), the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo. Though there are few confined studies on coastal sand dunes in temperate regions, the coastal dunes of tropics, especially the Indian coramandal coast has received scanty attention. Hence, a detailed vegetation survey of 10 belt transects (5 × 100m) along coastal dune in December 2008 was done. A total of 41 species belonging to 35 genera and 20 families were identified at different distances from the shoreline towards inland where various edaphic factors decline facilitating more floral colonization. Thus, the coastal dune systems are rich and diverse in their floral composition, even over a small area. CSD constitute a variety of habitats and gather vital ecological and economic importance. This could be fantastic it is a renovated school and has the bones to be a great boutique hotel. But it’s sadly unloved has no charisma and though staff are helpful it feels they lack direction. There’s no uniform for staff - the restaurant staff are keen to help but not properly trained and tea and coffee are served in steel cups . There’s no breakfast menu it’...
