The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday stayed the arrest of Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in connection with the Sanjivani Credit Co-operative Society scam. A bench of Justice Kuldeep Mathur said that Shekhawat shall not be arrested in connection with the FIR lodged by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police. The Union minister had filed a criminal miscellaneous petition seeking relief in the matter. The Rajasthan government had submitted that presently, Shekhawat “is not an accused in any of the FIRs registered by the SOG” and that “since the petitioner is not an accused in any The case pertains to thousands of investors who were duped of about Rs 900 crore by the Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society. Among others, the SOG had arrested Vikram Singh, the society’s founder and its first managing director. PTI quoted Shekhawat’s counsel Dhirendra Singh Daspan as saying that they sought the transfer of the investigation to the CBI on the grounds that the state has no jurisdiction in the matter. Sikar, Rajasthan: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday reiterated his demand to sack Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat from the cabinet. Mr Gehlot claimed that Mr Shekhawat and his family members are linked to the Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society case, and he has no moral authority to continue as a minister. He added that victims of the alleged scam have met him thrice and shared their pain. Ashok Gehlot claimed if Mr Shekhawat did not want to meet them in person, he could send the Union minister a video recording of his meeting with the victims. The Rajasthan High Court on Friday took on record the clarification by the state, terming Union Minister Shekhawat an accused in the case. The case is being investigated by the Special Operations Group of Rajasthan Police. It is alleged that the Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society embezzled the earnings of lakhs of people in the state.
