The conversation will feature Rahul Mehrotra, Chair of the Department of Urban Planning and Design and the John T. Dunlop Professor in Housing and Urbanization at Harvard University Graduate School of Design; Mahendra Raj, Structural Consultant for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium; Nitin Sangwan, Deputy Commissioner from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation; and Mukesh Kumar, Municipal Commissioner from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. A 1,11,000 seater cricket stadium, like no other in the world, saw cricketers from India and England gushing about the facilities provided here, ever since they landed in Ahmedabad last week. But even before the toss on Wednesday, 24 February, the venue of the third Test officially changed from Sardar Patel Stadium to Narendra Modi Stadium. President Ram Nath Kovind along with Amit Shah presided over the re-opening ceremony of the arena and announced that the world’s biggest cricket stadium would now be named after the man whose brainchild it was — Narendra Modi. “Today marks the naming ceremony of the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium and the inauguration of the land worship ceremony of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave. The decision to make such a stadium with world class facilities happened when the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the CM of Gujarat. At that time, he was also the director of the Gujarat Cricket Association,” said the President while speaking on the podium. While the cricket stadium has been named after the Prime Minister, Sardar Patel, after whom the stadium was originally named also sees his legacy carry on, as the entire sports arena will now be named after him — the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave. 10 things you should know about Mumbai's new indoor stadium

• The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium was inaugurated on August 3, 2013. • It took 10 years to be built. • The area of the stadium is 30,000 square feet. • It is a fully air-conditioned arena with 3150 seats on top. The ground floor seating varies according to the event. • It is the only stadium in Mumbai that has 1000 car parking slots. • It cost Rs250 crores for it to be built. • Football and cricket are prohibited in the stadium. • It is open for all indoor sporting and entertainment events. • Events that were held at the stadium recently are: Star Plus Uttrakhand Relief fund on August 15. • Indian Badminton League from August 18 to 31. 9. In December, there are 3 international events in the stadium, in which 45 countries will take part. 10. The stadium is the first ever air-conditioned stadium in the city of Mumbai.

Sardar Vallabhai Patel Indoor Stadium / National Sports Club of India ( NSCI ) Stadium. The stadium complex is composed of 3 structures - a large indoor stadium with a 90m diameter arena together with 4 surrounding ancillary halls which support the function of the arena. A much smaller adjacent 'Sports Annex Building' houses 3 badminton courts, 4 squash courts, table tennis tables and a large multi-purpose hall in addition to the Sports Administration Building. The two buildings are connected together with a basement encompassing over 12 acres of land which can park almost 900 cars at any given time. 3 large chillers and a 5 MW power substation, housed in a separate structure, are the heart of this complex. Chilled water pipelines from this Service Building provide air-conditioning and power to the entire complex.
