Who Are Scourge and the Terrorcons? 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' Villains Explained

Scourge is the leader of the Terrorcons, acting as the henchmen of the planet-devouring entity known as Unicron. As the leader of the Terrorcons, Scourge is Unicron’s strongest minion and is tasked with finding the Transwarp Key so that Unicron can easily get from one planet to another to devour them faster. In a way, Scourge acts as the herald of Unicron, similar to what the Silver Surfer did for Galactus in the world of Marvel Comics. That is why Scourge is such a great threat to the people of Earth and to the Autobots and the Maximals, as he is powerful enough to defeat Who Is Scourge? Because Scourge was introduced early in the movie when the Maximals were shown on their home planet. The Maximals were led by Apeling, who was guarding the Transwarp Key against Unicron and his minions because it allows anyone to travel through time and space. And the Maximals needed to ensure that Unicron did not get his hands on it because this would allow the massive planet-eating entity to easily consume entire galaxies in hours or days. As such, Apeling was seen fleeing with the Transwarp Key until some of Scourge’s underlings appeared and injured him. When the other Maximals saved Apeling from certain death, the leader of the Maximals ordered Optimus Primal to escape the planet using the Transwarp Key so that they could keep it away from Unicron’s hands. Apeling decided to stay behind to slow the other enemies down. Apeling dueled with Scourge, who offered to spare the planet of the...

Pete Davidson shocked the 'Transformers' censors with a NSFW joke

USA TODAY Spoiler warning: A joke told by Pete Davidson as Mirage in "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" is discussed below. Beware if you haven't seen it yet. Maximals maximize! As the movie title roars, But chest-pounding simian Maximal leader Optimus Primal and company are just a portion of the robots battling in "We're introducing the Beasts to the franchise, and there's so much fan excitement around that," says director Steven Caple Jr. "But 'Rise of the Beasts' goes well beyond the beasts." Here are five ways the robots of this "Transformers" go next level. Pete Davidson's Mirage brings attitude, humor and a bawdy line the studio wanted to cut The warrior Mirage was always going to be a cocky wisecracker. But this went to another level with Davidson voicing the Autobot who transforms into a rare silver 964 Generation Porsche 911 and has self-replication abilities through holographic illusions. "I wanted Mirage to show the comedic tone I was diving into here," says Caple. "And Pete really delivered." The former "SNL" cast member was in top form in the recording studio and riffed a hilariously bawdy line. "The original line was 'Work friends? After all we've been through?' which was cute," Caple recalls. "But Pete was giving all of these other reactions. And being Pete Davidson, he threw out the line, 'Work friends? But you've been inside me.' And we just cried laughing, like that was it, that's the line. We have got to try this." Caple brought over "I was in the next s...

Transformers Rise of the Beasts trailer breakdown: So many cameos

The Transformers: Rise of the Beasts dropped on Thursday, and — by Primus! — it’s got more robots in it than you can shake a Who are these robots? What do they convert into? Whose tusks gleam in the night? Allow us to answer all these questions and more with the exclamations they deserve! We’re not sorry we know this stuff! That’s just Primes Image: Paramount Pictures Look, I’m not gonna condescend to you and tell you who Optimus Prime is. You know which one’s Optimus Prime! And this Optimus Prime is looking fresh out of his brief appearances in the 2018 Transformers spinoff prequel, Bumblebee. But for those of you who were born after 1995, that gorilla dude on the right is Optimus Primal (voiced by Ron Perlman). They’re different guys! Traditionally, Optimus Primal is around the size of a regular gorilla, aka generally human-sized. Judging by Primal’s size here, however, Rise of the Beasts seems to be taking after Optimus Primal’s original inspiration, King Kong! (That’s precisely why the original Optimus Primal found himself facing off against Megatron as a Tyrannosaurus rex. It’s true!) Image: Paramount Pictures Later on in the trailer we see Optimus Primal in his robot mode wielding his two swords, combined at the hilts, just as the original gorilla Optimus Primal toy could! We also briefly see them attached to a chain, which seems to harken back to that toy’s mace weapon. There are lots of classic Beast Wars callbacks here. But who’s that orange guy going toe-to-toe w...

Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts

Scourge first appeared in the 1986 animated film "The Transformers: The Movie," in which he was voiced by "Little Shop of Horrors" narrator Stanley Jones. During the Battle of Autobot City — a near-pyrrhic conflict between the city's eponymous defenders and the dastardly Decepticons, which would see devastating casualties on both sides including leaders Megatron and Optimus Prime — a longtime "Transformers" adversary named Thundercrack met his demise. From his corpse, the planet-sized Unicron created the superpowered Scourge. Scourge served alongside Galvatron (formerly Megatron) underneath their new master, until Galvatron ultimately stayed true to his former ways and rebelled against Unicron. Afterward, Scourge became a regular antagonist in the "Transformers" animated series, wherein he was portrayed as an unparalleled hunter with a legion of subordinates called "Sweeps." He has appeared in many different comics, films, and television shows, most notably (in regards to "Rise of the Beasts") the comic series "Beast Wars: Uprising" and two different "G.I. Joe" crossover stories. In both "The Transformers: The Movie" and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," Scourge's connection to Unicron grants him capabilities that surpass even Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen). Though his speed seems comparably lumberous to the rest of the colossal robots on screen (and maybe even a bit slower than nimble players like Mirage or Arcee), his strength and durability are greatly enhanced. The lat...
