This site aims to study various versions of Srimad Valmiki Ramayana and arrive at a version of Ramayana that is most relevant to modern times. Ravana Ramayana, (Sanskrit: “Rama’s Journey”) shorter of the two great epic poems of India, the other being the Mahabharata (“Great Epic of the Bharata Dynasty”). The Ramayana was composed in Sanskrit, probably not before 300 bce, by the poet Valmiki and in its present form consists of some 24,000 couplets divided into seven books.

As per Valmiki Ramayan, Ram was not depicted as a God. Sage Valmiki lived during the Treta Yuga, the same period as Lord Rama. Sri Rama is just a mortal human and king who grows to be loved and, eventually, worshipped by people for his exemplary character and as a person who upholds Dharma. Valmiki's Ramayana is divided into seven books or kandas.

Ramayana is written by the sage Valmiki. It is considered Adi Kavya or the first book of ornate poetry. Ramcharitamanas is based on Valmiki’s original work. It was written by the great Awadhi poet Goswami Tulsi Das. It is important to note that Tulsidas compared the Seven Kandas or chapters to the seven steps leading to Lake Manasa.

The Saint Valmiki was the author of the great Indian epic book Ramayana. He was a Hindu sage who lived somewhere around the beginning of the 1st millennium BC. He is referred to as the Adikavi & also the original creator of the Hindu sloka. This Hindu sloka is a form in which the majority of the great Indian epics like the Mahabharata, Ramayana.

On Valmiki’s suggestion, Lord Rama built his hut on Chitrakuta hill, near the ashram. Writing Ramayana. Narada visited Maharishi Valmiki in his ashram once and there, he narrated the story of Lord Rama. Thereafter he received a vision from Brahma in which the Lord instructed him to write Ramayana in slokas, which the sage readily followed.

The Ramayana is an all-popular epic in South and Southeast Asia. It is the story of King Rama who must save his kidnapped wife, Sita. Along the way, it teaches Hindu life lessons. The Ramayana is told and retold orally, through literature (and comic books!), plays, movies and is reference in many other forms of popular culture today.
