In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as "National Voters' Day". It has been started from 25 January 2011 to mark the foundation day of Election Commission of India . A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan.



The day marks the foundation of India’s election commission which was established on 25 January in 1950. This day is intended to encourage, facilitate, and optimise new voter registration and to promote the electoral process among newly eligible young voters.
