floral

Based on the position of calyx, corolla and androecium with respect to the ovary on thalamus, the flowers are described as hypogynous, perigynous and epigynous. In the hypogynous flower, the gynoecium occupies the highest position while the other parts are situated below it.

There are three types of flowers based on the position of floral whorls on thalamus concerning ovary: Hypogynous, Perigynous, and Epigynous. The ovary is superior in the Hypogynous flower, i.e., ovary lies above all other parts such as sepals, petals, stamens which are inferior. Buttercup is the example of the Hypogynous flower.
