Sayyid al-Istighfar/Sayyidul Istighfar is considered the master prayer for seeking forgiveness from Allah SWT. Hence its name: ‘Sayyid’ meaning ‘master’ or ‘Lord’ and ‘Istighfar’ – seeking forgiveness. It is the ‘most superior’ and most complete Istighfar dua according to the Prophet ﷺ, as narrated by Shaddad bin ‘Aws.
